Problem is, American 2nd amendment finatics think when Australia enacted gun control after port Arthur massacre the Gov't took all the guns off Australians.

What they don't want to know is, only 13% of Aussies owned guns at the time.....13%, of 20 million people

I would like Canberra to do something on this as my Christmas present. Follow the trail on how they got armed, why it was not caught, why it took so long to intervene. These need to be addressed. Bondi is iconic, and should be a safe space for all people.

It was clearly before the larger mass shootings of the last 10 years, but still relevant(both parts).

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We all agree we need to model our own firearm laws on Australia's. But why are we not furious at the behavior of the *males* who go around killing people? Why do we mention their mental health or childhood? Who cares? It is their *gender* which is the common denominator.

I’m so sick of members of Congress posting about all the praying they’re doing.

Your prayers do NOTHING.
Legislation would do something.

When are you gonna get up off your lazy, mendacious prayerful knees DO your damn JOB?

Americans need to wake the hell up. This wave of alt right shit is spanning the globe. The billionaires we are sheltering are trying to launch a global genocide.

Death toll could have been much higher if the killers had auto and semi-auto guns, seems like they had single shot rifles.

Glad that Australia has tough gun laws and about to get tougher. Canada is the same way!!!

We are not perfect but we try. The rising right wing maga-esque sections had a bit of a stomping at the federal election but we need to work harder to eradicate from our politics. 🇦🇺

Australia's regulation of firearms is already evident in this incident.

Imagine if the shooters had automatic assault rifles, the death toll would be 100s.

Of course not. That's how racism & sectarianism works. It doesn't see individuals, it sees a collective enemy & it's what we must fight against as a nation both in Australia & in the world. We must oppose prejudice, human rights abuses, human suffering & injustice everywhere it is happening.

I don't agree. Demonstrations here haven't been antisemitic. In fact, many Jewish people took part. Speaking out against genocide is not antisemitic, it's pro humanity. The man who disarmed one of the gunman and was shot twice is an Australian/Lebanese Muslim - he's our nation at its best.

Australian here, I really, really hope this is the outcome.

It’s horrifying how much gun violence has been creeping into our society. We seem to have a ‘gun lobby’ (*shudders*) that is all about getting more guns here. It’s so repulsive, that lobby needs to be stopped.

As a nation we are gutted. We really thought we had done enough over the past 30 years since our last mass shooting to make sure it never happened again. There is more work to do and yes, laws and regulations will changed. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.

Worth noting that Grok and Musk are telling everyone that the hero was a white IT guy instead of a Muslim immigrant.

All love to the Lebanese fruit shop owner who tackled and disarmed one of the gunmen. He was shot twice and is being treated in hospital.

They are also revealing that the hero that disarmed one of the shooters was a Muslim immigrant while MAGA would not want some fact like that to hinder their targeting of the immigrant community.

For GOP & NRA a mass shooter is THE BEST DAY EVER.
See this stunning hidden camera footage no one has promoted since I’ve been sharing it.

Instead of responding only with thoughts and prayers, Australia will respond with laws and regulations. Because, unlike the United States, it values the lives of its citizens over any sick adulation of firearms.

The 1996 Port Arthur massacre led to immediate, sweeping, bipartisan gun law reforms.
