Why am I compelled to write? Because the writing saves me from this complacency I fear. Because I have no choice. Because I must keep the spirit of my revolt and myself alive. Because the world I create in the writing compensates for what the real world does not give me. By writing I put order in the world, give it a handle so I can grasp it. I write because life does not appease my appetites and hunger. I write to record what others erase when I speak, to rewrite the stories others have miswritten about me, about you. To become more intimate with myself and you. To discover myself, to preserve myself, to make myself, to achieve self-autonomy. To dispel the myths that I am a mad prophet or a poor suffering soul. To convince myself that I am worthy and that what I have to say is not a pile of shit. To show that I can and that I will write, never mind their admonitions to the contrary. And I will write about the unmentionables, never mind the outraged gasp of the censor and the audience. Finally, I write because I’m scared of writing but I’m more scared of not writing.

The winners in this game (measured by market share) have been the big bookstore chains, the supermarkets and the online bookstores. The losers are the book clubs and specialist bookshops, with the exception of niche outlets that compete other than on price, such as by means of more personal service and minority interest titles. In the last few years, the chains have also experienced a decline in market share, while the big winners have been the online bookstores.

Most of the time when he cries, it's not the mournful, bereaved sobbing he knows from the movies. Instead, his grief manifests as small but ceaseless tearfulness. Warm tears well up in his eyes, in a perpetual cycle of sting, tear, dry. He learns that tears don't lubricate the eyes. They're too briny and dry out the skin, so he's constantly reapplying eyedrops, and it starts to hurt. His eyes feel thick and swollen, the corneas hard and inflexible, the lids red and rough.

watched Nosferatu. it was... not good
Letterbox review of Nosferatu, 2024. Vacuous. No vision. Fails pretty severely at basic aspects of filmmaking such as narrative and thematic cohesion. I did not expect it to be good but it still shocked me it was this incompetent. A disgrace to the source material. 1 like

Each snowflake stirs before lifting into the sky as I learn you won't be dead. The unsuffering ends when the mess of your head pulls together around a bullet in your mouth. You spit it into Dad's gun before arriving in the driveway while the evening brightens and we pour bag after bag of leaves on the lawn, waiting for them to leap onto the bare branches.
