A little GIS, a little EnviroSci, a little Emergency Management, some Photography, and a lot of UCLA.
@casematepublishers.bsky.social is a little better, but not much. They just don't provide as many resources/support to authors anymore and so many of the books just aren't getting the special attention that a good editor can provide.

It's frustrating.

When it comes to military history, there is a HUGE company @penandswordbooks.bsky.social that puts out so many titles a year, and in the past, they were THE company to read. Now? Most titles are garbage. Absolute garbage. Misspellings, errors, repetitive paragraphs, repeated chapters, just JUNK.

You know, I guess I'm lucky in that I always had so many electronics around the house that I've always kept liquids in no-spill mugs!

Those are great! You know it's our favorite place to go for a walk. The cats in the windows, the dogs out for a walk, the library and rail car, or the new park by 1st st and the river bikeway to see sea turtles.

It's insane to think that I've been going there since the 80s w/Rubys at the end!

There were a few people along the water, but pretty empty even though it was a really warm day. There were a bunch of floofs though, so my fiancee was very happy! 15 min walk turned into 45 just to say hello to all of them. @charleeh.bsky.social you would have loved it too!

Yep, been eating a lot of chicken legs and breasts mostly.

We're going to try a ground beef/pork thing I found at walmart next week. It's $3.97 a pound vs $5 and $6

Even ground beef for nachos/tacos is insane. We're sticking with a lot of chicken legs right now.

Always heard it in shows and movies growing up, but never used it in SoCal

Kinder's has new garlic fries that are incredible... just an FYI

how it affected them, and what has stayed with them all of these years since. From bands, to fashion, to just people with no where else to go who found a home, it's an incredible book, especially if you love the music and the culture of that era.

The stories included aren't the usual music book type where they just list song by song by song and go this is a great song, oh that's a great song too, but their best song is blah blah blah. Instead it is a collection of stories from multiple viewpoints of how the key figures got into the scene...

For something a little different, Under the Big Black Sun by John Doe et al. is a must read/listen. I grew up in the SoCal punk scene in the early 80s so I have a lot of nostalgia for this period before OC hardcore & nazi's ruined a lot of the scene with their violence and gatekeeping....

just the world and ideas he exposed me to, especially Trieste and Malta. It really was like having a personal tour guide around that area that helped me understand what happened and why in many ways.

I could not get enough of both series and I think everyone will enjoy them!

A similar series set in Pre-WW1 Europe/Med is by Michael Pearce about Seymour of the Special Branch who bascially gives you a guided tour of what life was like building toward WW1 and the conflicts, tensions, and attitudes. The cases are interesting, but most never captured my interest as much as...

and a few surprise guest stars in each book as he tackles various topics from the Katyn Massacre, to Switzerland and the Church's role in the Holocaust and war.
