The problem with memory is that I conceive of the person in my memories as me, but by definition, they don't have the experiences I have.

'How could I have been so stupid as to have gotten that wrong?' I ask myself. 'I know that's wrong because I learned so in that moment, when I was corrected!'

Roll-top baths should be like roll-top desks.

You might think it odd that Japan has two cities whose names are anagrams - Tokyo and Kyoto - but this is actually quite common! For instance, there's the cities of Perth and Threp (Australia), Budapest and Pastedub (Hungary), and Salt Lake City and Silky Lactate (United States of America).

Everyone at base camp is laughing at me because I pronounced it 'Eve-rest'. It's not my fault - I'd only seen it written down before. This sucks. Mountaineering is stupid.

Scenes from the Taskmaster discourse: Americans asking why Sanjeev Bhaskar went on the show if he was just going to be so rude about it, and Britons explaining to them that 'I'm having a miserable time and wish I hadn't come' is how the English say 'I love you and enjoy spending time with you'.

Anyway if you like knowledge and deduction games may I point you towards KINOPHOBIA, my exorcist-detective game about ghosts, movies, and movie stars that are ghosts?

No more fantasy worlds where the magic and wonder is going away. I want fantasy worlds that are getting more magical and wondrous every day. I want to see the elves coming back from the West just to get a taste of all this wonder.

Rewatching some old Poirots. 'One, Two, Buckle My Shoe' has prompted two realisations. First, that you could remove the death scenes with the spooky effects and the ironic nursery rhymes and the episode wouldn't suffer at all.

It's cool when a game's save feature involves the characters making notes about their progress, reporting to an outside party, or something like that. The story's only set when it's recorded, and if you died, you didn't get to record it, so you just go back a few paragraphs and try again!

Sometimes, I like to share a hot take on a cold topic. For instance, I disapprove of caricaturists who combine a realistic style with grotesquely exaggerated features. If you can't caricature someone with only slight exaggeration, or capture a recognisable likeness in a cartoonish style, get out!

After a particularly physically, mentally and emotionally exhausting few months, we managed to get away for a weekend and see some nature. We saw horses, cows, sheep, alpacas, kangaroos, rabbits, lizards, ducks, ravens, ibises, galahs, cockatoos, magpies, bees, and some critters I didn't recognise.

I would like to get this account to a thousand followers by the end of the year. That feels like a level where I'd have comparable reach to the 6k I had when I left Twitter

This is probably going to sound ridiculous, but god I hate memes these days. There used to be a lot of memes that were just harmless fun - talking animals and such. Now they're all far-right stereotypes.

There's a very wise and worthy post on Tumblr about coercive systems of division and control, and I'm not here to criticise, but this is the first line and I can't tell you how seen I felt reading it until I saw it didn't end at the word 'person' and thus wasn't saying what I thought it was saying.

'You can't rock and roll all night *and* party every day!'

Eight hours rock and rolling, eight hours partying, eight hours rest. Just as those who fought for our labour rights intended.

Hello, 'Owen'. I want to play a game. In ten minutes, the machine in front of you will break all of your bones with big hammers and set fire to your eyes. You can leave at any time, if you can just admit that you're trans, you idiot. There is still time - for now. The clock is ticking...

'Show, don't tell' is an important principle when writing. For instance, instead of having a character say their name is John Hunter, they should be shown shooting a deer while sitting on the toilet.

Catching up on the new Kill James Bond. James Fox appears. 'No relation to Laurence Fox, I hope.' My heart dropped. I'm so sorry, Abi. We all have to live in this world.

Househunters on Escape to the Country used to all want to run donkey sanctuaries. Now they all want to rent out glamping pods. Donkerys are the real victims of the englampification of society.
