I read the book when it came out, and saw the movie when it came out, so we're talking a long time ago. I remember the library burning, and I knew someone was burned at the stake. It wasn't uncommon for a "heretic" author to have their books burned with them... Thanks!

I read Latin, French, & some German when I started a library job - my supervisor was Italian. My computer desk was right outside her office. Which meant I head her talking (ahem berating) her kids daily. By the end of 2nd year, I had to tell her I could understand 80% of what she was saying...

It's been years and years since I saw The Name of the Rose, or read it, and may be conflating the two or even misremembering, but I thought I remembered them burning a man and his "heretical" books?? And of course, the whole library burns at the end, I believe...
