A look-ahead to Millwall, while dealing (as briefly as possible) with the fiasco that was #dcfc v Leicester City.

After three defeats in four, is it time for a change of personnel, or even system against a club who've won their last five visits to Pride Park?

Thanks Ben. It surprises me that more hasn't been made of how low #dcfc's shots per game average is. Swansea rank 23rd, and they have 10.7 shots pg... So we are a real outlier in that sense.
Love the stats from @derbycountyblog.bsky.social - but the fact this isn't changing isn't filling me with confidence....

Not sure I'd want #dcfc to change to a back four, as it probably doesn't suit Ward? However, I think there's a clear mandate for changes of personnel after that shambles.

One option could be to bring Tommo in and revert to the 3-5-2 that kept us up last season.

We're much weaker without Morris.
Very frustrating today. Think it’s shown how we’ve been papering over the cracks with a 2 man midfield. We looked so much better when AW was in as a 10 & helping pick up 2nd balls. Back 4 for Tuesday please. Sick of Ed on Radio Derby & his childish comments though. Such a poor broadcaster

Today provides an illustration of how stats can 'lie' unless you put them into context.

#dcfc outshot Leicester 18-4 and had 61% possession.
Lowest amount of shots conceded in a game all season. Joint highest total shots taken, and joint highest amount of shots on target (5). Highest possession %.

The last time #dcfc beat Leicester, their substitutes included Jamie Vardy (unused) and Harry Kane.

Travis and Ozoh missing leaves #dcfc very short in midfield.

We know Ebou's strengths and weaknesses, and young Bobby Clark isn't a player who can control a game in the Championship at this stage of his development.
Don't disagree with any of that. The question is can Derby do something about it? Yesterday we were crying out for some control in the middle of the park but we just couldn't string 4 passes together. We were never able to take the sting out of the game.

Given the continuing noise about Textor, and the slew of bad headlines about his malign influence at all the clubs he's involved with, I've written a note to the #dcfc Supporters' Board, asking if they can raise this issue with the club at the earliest opportunity.

#dcfc beat Swansea with 26% possession, which was possible because Swansea are currently struggling to turn their passing into chances. Allowing Boro to have so much of the ball was never likely to end well, as they have significantly better players.
Derby got exactly what they deserved from that game. You cannot concede 75% of possession, all the momentum and all the chances and hope to regularly win games. We can't keep making the same mistake. #dcfcfans #dcfc

#dcfc played without the ball to an extreme level, but had a lot more chances than Swansea, and deserved to win. Brereton Diaz could have turned the night into a party, but no matter.

Huge credit to the whole team, but especially Joe Ward. I thought he was finished, but he's proved me totally wrong

Reasons to be cheerful

Everything got a little bit doom and gloom after #dcfc lost 3-2 at home to Watford, so I thought it might be worth trying to counterbalance that a little by focusing on some positives.

Everything crossed that Carlton Morris' injury isn't as bad as feared, but it might turn out that this unpunished, off-the-ball foul from a Watford defender has a massive impact on how #dcfc's season goes from here 🙏

My take on #dcfc 2 Watford 3

www.patreon.com/posts/144202...

Honestly, I'd have taken a 5-0 walloping over losing Carlton Morris to injury. That setback, plus the rumours of John Textor waiting in the wings to buy Derby, overshadowed the crushing disappointment of losing the match from 2-0 up.

PS Textor has a very close (and controversial) working relationship with Evangelos Marinakis. Which would make him an extraordinarily odd fit for #dcfc. Hopefully there's nothing in this.
Notorious rumourmonger Alan Nixon continues to link the controversial American John Textor with a #dcfc takeover bid.

Given that Mr Clowes is a diehard Ram and firmly focused on the club's long-term sustainability, I'm sure he will think very carefully before handing Derby on to its next custodian

#dcfc collapse today was a horrible shock. Unfortunately, Watford clearly sensed it was on as soon as the penalty went in, and it was no surprise when the corner was headed in a minute later.

But more relevant than the result is how bad Morris' injury is. Without him, we're nothing like as good.

Louza is a potential menace for them, and will need close attention. But Eusty's evolving team has threats of it own (most notably CM9 MkII, of course...)

🐝 will likely have a go, but an open game from the visitors might suit Derby.

One of John Eustace's key challenges has been finding a way to get the best out of #dcfc's marquee summer signing, Patrick Agyemang. Changing to a front three, with Big Pat shifted to the left, has coincided with a remarkable change of fortunes for the resurgent Rams

Additional point on this - #dcfc need to put a new contract in front of JWZ soon. He only signed to 2027, so is down to his last 18 months now.
I was really pleased to see Jacob Widell Zetterstrom get a nomination for Championship player of the month. Certainly when measured by the advanced goalkeeping metric "PSxG - GA"*, he's up there with the best keepers in the division this season.
