if you're looking for a nice hefty book about some men ruining each others' lives in hotel rooms and casinos and sometimes driving around in the desert, boy do I have a book for you.

Though the tone of the man’s voice remained amiable, his expression darkened. “Why do you say that?”

“Well, you’re here, aren’t you?”

The man glanced vaguely at their surroundings. All around them was a sea of loners-- desperate, unblinking eyes trained on slot machines, cigarette-stained fingertips, parched lips that seemed to remain unsated, drink after drink. The season of noisy tourists and lovesick young couples had come to an end, and the crowd that remained for the casino’s quiet, autumn weeknights was lean and hungry-- for money, for distraction, for the fleeting reprieve of a stranger’s touch. Calder’s point, it seemed, had been well taken. The man sighed and gazed down at his hands, notably bare and absent of any sign of a ring, as Calder was pleasantly surprised to discover. This fact seemed to bring the man little comfort, however. When he noticed Calder’s eyes on his ringless fingers, he withdrew them quickly, adding curtly, “I'm divorced.”

Betony starts kissing Osprey, and Osprey gets a little too forceful with him, a liiiitttle too toppy... Betony is surprised but kinda into it (but that's also embarrassing) but this definitely can't go on. "Osprey..."

Osprey does not let up and kisses him forcefully again, tipping Betony back against him.
Betony: (definitely into it, needs to abort this immediately, grabs Osprey by his collar) ALRIGHT Osprey. That's enough.

Everything basically happens because of Betony's initial desire to get revenge on Lilian and Osprey, but he quickly gets lost in his own game...
and imo, Lilian has way bigger things to worry about than revenge after that. (🦐)

Neutral Pantser but a version that definitely knows the ending and is working in foreshadowing the whole time. It's funny because for a long time I was like "wait I'm definitely a plotter though right?" and every writing friend I know has been like "you're the most pantser out of anyone I know"
