My partner is American & this is his first Thanksgiving away from home in years.

I thought it would be nice to make a proper dinner in the camper van.

In lieu of a long thread about what a colossal mistake this was, I present my current emotional state in the form of a Lorrie Moore short story:

Love Weil’s thoughts on attention:

“Attention, taken to its highest degree, is the same thing as prayer. It presupposes faith and love. Absolutely unmixed attention is prayer.”

"This way of looking is first of all attentive. The soul empties itself of all its own contents in order to receive the being it is looking at, just as he is, in all his truth. Only he who is capable of attention can do this.”

Almost finished my first attempt at a (somewhat) more realistic embroidery, a gift for a friend of my dad’s based on a photograph. Lots to learn about thread painting and perspective but pretty pleased with how this is turning out. Almost done! #WIPWednesday 🧵🪡

What are your favourite manifestos? Artistic & creative manifestos. Political & revolutionary manifestos (that are not hateful/supremacist in nature in case that doesn’t go without saying). Contemporary and little-known works especially welcome.

TY in advance and forever after!

I remember when this poem was read at the end of the RTE News in 2020 when the nation was told about stricter measures being put in place to slow the spread of Covid. It was such an Irish moment to comfort the country with poetry.
❛ There will be dying, there will be dying, / but there is no need to go into that. / The poems flow from the hand unbidden / and the hidden source is the watchful heart.

Poet Derek Mahon, who was born #OTD in 1941.

I lied! These are my caffeinated thoughts. I will truly never amount to anything!
Obviously seeded bread is a known good thing that exists in the world but I’m increasingly into seeds as a key component of the filling in a sandwich. They cling to the hummus/mayo etc. and don’t spill all over the place when you’re eating. Fab.
