Was waiting for #Dispatch from @adhocstudio.com to come out today. I gotta say, it’s well worth the anticipation. I cannot wait to run through it a few times just to really explore its narrative.

Honestly, it’s one of my games of the year, in quality and in what I needed out of a game this year.

Absolutely adore @adhocstudio.com’s Dispatch. Very rarely has a game made me laugh like this while playing. Amazing execution on top of excellent narrative. What a great experience so far!

Been doing some traveling. New Zealand and New York were amazing! Definitely learned my limit of how many floors up I’m comfortable with.

It’s been super inspiring to travel and meet so many cool people in game dev and see these iconic places.

I’m at an amazing coffee shop, Customs, in downtown Wellington and the amount of absolute friendliness of people in here is off the charts! It’s such a nice place to relax. No place in Vancouver is like this.

Saw a little gang of 13 year olds on e-bikes on a super busy road this afternoon at a red light. After first I was amused and a bit like, “Why are you all in traffic.” Then the light turned green and half of them did wheelies and rode off down the road. 🤙 I have now decided I will never be as cool.

I just learned about Win+Ctrl+V! I'm constantly switching between audio devices, and it's such a huge time saver. I feel like there are probably tons of people that don't know about it...

If you ever need the editor to not use the existing DDC and re-build the data as needed instead, you can use the command line parameter -DDC=Cold. The exact formatting will differ depending on which shell you use, but the gist is: pathto/UnrealEditor.exe pathto/projectname.uproject -DDC=Cold #ue5

In just about every gamedev cycle you'll find that every three months something very unexpected happens that will upend some of your development. Most of these are minor, except the Surprise 3 months before release.

Been seeing a small amount of chatter that people aren’t excited by the Switch 2 reveal, they were hoping for more innovation.

I trust Nintendo to push on design, even if hardware changes aren’t drastic, studios will still get better at using the improvements they will make.

To add to Ryan’s post. One of the other issues with coming up with a common process for building games is that getting to your final frame is so different depending on the stage of development, state of tech. Even if your planning processes were the same, your game might need it to be flexible.
I've worked at 10+ game studios and we build them like the Tower of Babel.

Agile is the closest I've seen toward standardization, which is either a result of addressing this or a viral spread of bad practices from one studio to many.

Problem is, the Tower of Babel approach got us to ship.
just as an outsider with an interest in video game development, and coming from the film industry, it really feels like the game industry has no standardized workflow. every new project gets a bespoke production system with a lot of uncertainty about tasks, roles and who should be doing what
