Real wages (after inflation) were growing at 2.0% last year. Now it’s 0.8% — “clearly playing into what the majority of American households would define as an affordability crisis.”

I'm sympathetic to the idea that progressives need to rethink procedural barriers to getting things done, and that this a crucial moment for American government. But we are witnessing a shift to authoritarianism right now. American needs not just a theory of power but also theory of accountability.

There is such a thirst in some progressive centrist circles that they will look at the Trump administration as a model to get things done. I think its worth addressing the argument. This is from Mark Dunkelman, author of the widely praised "Why Nothing Works."

Two things can be true:
-Regulation and procedure are strangling government's ability to achieve its goals
-The solution can't be constantly violating the law and the Constitution

“Jews are a race” is literally what people, including Hitler, used to mass murder us for centuries.
Jews are both a religion and a people.

They are racially diverse.

To categorize them as one race is not only inaccurate but dangerous.

I have no special knowledge here, but *if* Maduro was involved in drug trafficking it would hardly be the worst thing about him. But that is still not a cause for war. They are not even bothering to make a coherent case.
Marco Rubio on Maduro: "He's into the drug business. By the way, it's not me saying it. I'm not just making this up. This was an indictment that came out of the Southern District of New York back in 2020. An indictment! It was undisputed."

The foreign-born fraction of the US population was 15% in 1890, and in 1910. America thrived.

That fraction is 16% now.

The difference is that in 1890/1910, >96% of immigrants were from Europe or Canada. Today that's less than 10%.

It's best to be honest about one one is actually afraid of.
Rep. Kat Cammarck: "Today, one in six people in the US is foreign born. That quite frankly is not sustainable to maintain a culture that we are known for here in the United States."

The reactionary worldview is shot through with a deep-seated disdain for America.

In this post, for example, the underlying assumption is that there is nothing special about America's institutions and laws, its civil services, its patterns of life and social norms, its historical developments.

They're not hiding it, folks—straight up neo-Nazi advertising, from the font to the language to the 11 stars for the Confederacy. Then you have the DHS openly using white nationalist language of "remigrate", which means ethnic cleansing.
