Giving it a try on here after low-key interactions on Mastodon - excellent for finding out about the world, but I missed most of the musical folk I left behind on Xitter last year. Good to see some famiiar faces already.

Ed Gardner knows how to make Elgar move, in more senses than one, where other conductors don't quite get it. Beth Taylor also contralto-magnificent and intensely dramatic in 'Sea Pictures'. Five stars, no doubt about it: a first rate evening @southbankcentre.bsky.social

So disgusting. As is the death penalty already.
our cruelty has never stopped for some, and it seems our prison/judicial system was set up to do exactly that.
"At 5:50, correctional officers opened the curtains of the death chamber to begin the state’s grim orchestration. Before those curtains would close about 37 minutes later, Boyd would gasp for air inside the gas mask more than 225 times."

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

Postponed watching the last of the Don Camillo films, only partly set in Russia (in a village on the Don, presumably the Po), because I feared it would be simplistic. But it has the usual balance between right-wing church man and communist mayor. Guareschi set the tone, and the films do him proud.

Worth a read for what I quote. This Zionist Brit was as bad as any Israeli 'settlers' (ie thugs) now.
Checked out some names in the vital-to-see faction film Palestine 36. Orde Wingate, a real villain rather overdone (and with long hair) by the actor, was a real bastard. Wiki: 'Wingate became politically involved with a number of Zionist leaders, and became an ardent Christian Zionist himself. (ctd)
