I'm in the airport and thus subjected to talking heads breathlessly covering SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS. Like there's not an authoritarian breakthrough going on.

Contra dances insist on live music even though in many ways recorded music would be better. In a sense, people on stage playing for dancing has been obsolete for decades, but we keep doing it because that's the culture we want.

As AI progressively outpaces humans, I like this as a model to follow.
Contra Dance as a Model For Post-AI Culture
I play for contra dances, and a core part of our culture is that we always have live music. It's not that live music is categorically better: if you ran a test where you put down a curtain in front of...

'Clicktatorship'
I agree with this- they are definitely in a social media bubble and are losing sight of what the vast majority of the country sees and wants.
It’s a Clicktatorship.

@plainenglishsci.bsky.social this feels up your alley.
Experts don’t lose public debates because they’re wrong. They lose because they’re hard to hear.

In energy, complexity without a clear takeaway gets ignored. Simpler, louder stories take its place.

My latest piece is about starting with clarity and then layering nuance.

Attacking Greenland is the the smartest move since:
- Japan attacking Pearl Harbor in 1941
- Nazi Germany invading the USSR in 1941
- Imperial Germany invading Belgium in 1914
You see that the officials from those governments had wonderful lives after making those very smart decisions!

The mayor says something really important about something that's bugged me for a long time: that we force grieving families to relive their trauma over and over again as they lobby elected officials asking them to do the right thing. I am so glad to hear him say those days are over.

Maduro is a brutal and oppressive dictator of Venezuela.

Trump has no legitimate legal basis for military action against Venezuela under United States or international law.

Both of those facts are simultaneously true.

Bombing another country and kidnapping its leader would also be wrong with Congressional approval. The outrage, and call for impeachment, should be over the evil and illegal outcome not merely the failure to follow the prescribed process.

Letter to my congressional delegation /1

"The president has taken military action against Venezuela without consulting congress. Whatever the current murky legality of that action under US Law, congress must see that this man does not have the capacity to lead the country in war.

As US citizens, what are our responsibilities today?
Write congresscritters?
Stand on a street corner with a sign?
What else?

Tonight we played _Cross Bronx Expressway_.

This game models history. I found it fresh, educational, and ideological. Go bankrupt? Incarcerate too many? Everyone loses! But everyone has a partisan agenda and everyone needs everyone else's help, too! How will YOU thread that needle?

This would be the first real Christmas alone, or without a family member, for millions in the US. Gas and tire rationing had begun earlier that year.🗃️
