DMZ reviews stories in various mediums and interviews creatives. I’m trying to get back into it but it’s been a hard year. Latest interview: Raelke Grimmer, debut YA neurodivergent author who wrote a neurodivergent protag. DMZ content is free.
What I have learned:
They did not invade/support a specific country = no oil.
They invaded or “supported” a specific country = oil or rare minerals.
Current situation seems like ICT oligarchs want all the rare minerals so want the govt to seize the land. Greenland, Ukraine, Venezuela…

a US senator recently said it was because the US “needs” their oil. It was a few weeks ago now, I think.
There’s a reason Trump fired JAG and competent career military top brass. And now their bill gives some military a 3.8% pay rise, presumably for following illegal orders, murder and piracy.

I’m Australian living in Australia. I am not involved in US elections.

The US already lost significant leverage via axing USIP, USaid, trashing its CDC, axing payments to WHO, etc. Those in control in the US do not understand how systems work nor that they’ve lost leverage and influence with cuts and clowns.

schadenfreude is delicious.

I read an article that said the gerrymandered maps in Texas returned one or two Dems so it might not work regardless. Fingers crossed. Also, if people get angry enough they’ll turn out to vote for anyone other than a Republican.

BBC wrote an article using AI. It took A LOT of human intervention and the article STILL wasn’t publishable so they decided to stick with human journalists.
@adamhillscomedy.bsky.social Last Leg used AI to write a Segregation skit. AI wrote AN ALIEN. Humans edited, added last line. AI sucks.

Yes! Australia should boycott.
And all the boycott countries should hold their own competition without Israel.

guess who has the money to bankroll opposition to Gavin and advertising to undermine any initiatives? It’s the old story. ”He who pays the piper calls the tune”.

In recent years the periwinkle blue was the only memorable nice one. They’ve done brown already. As usual, it’s about PR and ”owning” colours.
I wonder how many people they’ll sue for using white without paying royalties.

my apologies. In my defence, I’m Australian.
And I knew the US is still using imperial. So fitting.

"Amazon as a whole consumed 105bn gallons of water in total in 2021, as much as 958,000 US households, which would make for a city bigger than San Francisco, according to the memo."

about time someone started reporting the real cost of AI data centres.
Meanwhile, Sam Altman has declared a “code red” for his AI company, not long after execs wanted a (US I think) govt guarantee for their trillion $ financing for their AI related loans.

police were murdered on the day.
Afterwards, a few police were so traumatised they ended their own lives.
Ashley Babbitt died because she was in a scrum of people forcibly trying to break through doors to kill elected reps. I saw the footage. Defenders were RESTRAINED, only shot one as a warning.

also we need current photos of the site. I expect that they’ve been building the bunker, but it might have been delayed.
I’m concerned: if he can walk into the bunker and close the door, he might well nuke US cities/the world. I want to know the bunker has been delayed too.

that’s my taste of schadenfreude today (too much social media is just depressing). But there’s no information on why the architect is feuding other than “size ≠ your description”. Is it the roof would fall in without supporting pillars? the architect doesn’t want to be blamed? the bunker underneath?

I expect this post will feature in Hegseth’s trial (whether it’s a trial in court or “trial” by history). I’m guessing he’ll claim he’s not responsible for the murders or the post due to being “under the influence” or “following orders”.
