Finally getting back to some game design work. Much smaller project than what I'd been hoping to make last year.... but... well I have much fewer resources than I did a year ago.
Working on a small project, a casual play-by-post "CivRPG" game for Discord servers and I ran into a fun design problem: I had to invent zero.
The trick was counting player agency as a trait with no stats and no dice rolls.

Because it's fuckin always placing on the heat scale, and if I ever tried to use it at 100% I'd need to make shutdown rolls.

I genuinely don't understand why #BattleTech didn't include an easy-to-read Crush Depth chart like this in TacOps.

This. But also, remember that passion alone doesn't pay the bills. Most indies underprice their games, are ignored by algorithms, undersold, some even unfairly blocked from selling... So check that your money actually moves in the direction you want people surviving and making things.

I would kill to take an entire semester of a class that's just the philosophy of Garth Marhengi's Darkplace. And not just, like, the message of episodes. I mean on a meta level of what it means to be art.

Turns out one of the big bosses in my company is SUPER EXCITED about using AI to do my job for me... even though I think it'd count as a breach of contract, since it's no longer being transcribed by anyone in Australia.

I wish people would stop doing Donald Trump impressions. It's an admission of his uniqueness, his power, and the amount of interest which words spoken in his voice elicit.
It fails to criticize him, and instead immortalizes him. It cements his presence in culture, and I don't want that.
