BOTD: Scott Bradley (1891-1977) who wrote music for the MGM cartoon shorts of the Golden Age.
Bradley was an accomplished composer who felt that music for cartoons was a true art form.
I consider his work equal to that of Carl Stalling, his better known contemporary at Warner Bros

Composer/arranger Johnny Mandel was BOTD in 1925 (d. 2020)
Known for his popular songs and jazz arrangements for names like Sinatra, Count Basie, Streisand and others.
He had a long career in film scoring, including M*A*S*H (1970) and its title song "Suicide is Painless"

Happy 71st birthday to film composer Carter Burwell.
A fascinating artist: he began in 1979 as an animator and computer scientist, pursuing a musical career in parallel.
Starting with BLOOD SIMPLE in 1984, he has scored most of the Coen Brothers' films, and many, many more.

Daws Butler, BOTD (1916-1988) is on the Mount Rushmore of voice actors of the 20th century.
Yogi Bear, Elroy Jetson, and dozens of other iconic and instantly recognizable voices.

Ten years after her score for A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, Wendy Carlos (BOTD) was again breaking ground with her fully-realized electronic score for TRON (1982).
And although Disney insisted on using orchestral cues in a few spots, the score remains a landmark in film music.

He wrote only six film scores, but Aaron Copland BOTD (1900-1990) received Oscar nominations for 4 of those films, winning one, for THE HEIRESS (1949). Pretty good batting average, I'd say.

Wendy Carlos' (BOTD) score for Stanley Kubrick's A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (1971) forever altered the landscape of film music. There had been electronic scores before, but none with the visceral power of Carlos' music.
From the opening titles, it grabs you and never lets go.
