Today is #InternationalPallasCatDay ! 🐾🎉

Also known as the manul, this small wild cat lives in the grasslands of central Asia. Its head type is unique, which is why I opted to study the skull as well.

Eptesicus fuscus, the big brown bat, a large broad-winged bat adapted to use of forest edges for foraging. It has a thick coat of golden-brown fur. Myotis thysanodes, the fringed myotis. A tiny bat with more wing than body, long ears and pale fur. These bats are adapted to dense, cluttered forest habitats. Tadarida brasiliensis, the Brazilian free-tailed bat. Unlike the other bats, this has a relatively large body and long, narrow wings. These widespread bats forage in open spaces. A figure from the linked article showing the three bat species studied with the habitats they use, as well as the call patterns of each bat. In cluttered spaces, calls are short and fast ( \\\ ), in edge habitats calls are longer and sloped ( L L L ), and in open spaces calls are low-frequency and longer duration ( __ __ __ )
