I think the reason romantasy is dwarfing sales of fantasy & sci-fi is that it's a subset of romance.

And romance is the biggest, most profitable category in literature.

Romantasy allowed romance readers, who read very widely, to take cross-genre romance mainstream & it's reaping the rewards.

Great thread here - much to be preferred to the inchoate yowling noises I was making on reading the news.
This statement not acceptable and I suspect not sustainable. Large majority of public support principle of asylum, support letting people stay permanently. Majority for that among Labour and other progressive parties’ voters is overwhelming. The Reform voters this is aimed at will never vote Labour
"The era of permanent protection is over"

Is this Labour government really saying it was wrong in principle to let these refugees of the last 75 years to stay, settle and become British - and they believe that should NEVER happen again in principle or practice?

The thing I despise is inhumanity. It’s not really a political position, it’s an existential one. But if your political party manoeuvres itself into a place where it practises and promotes inhumanity, I will despise you.

Why the fuck am I up at this time of the morning? And in the cold?

I can't even blame the cat.

Fecking #tea.

Anyway, #tea and hoofing this giant cub out the door to work.

Am getting my writing feet (if you see what I mean) back under me, so onwards we go :)

Question for the morning:

Why don't more companies make advent calendars that build one big/decent thing, rather than giving you twenty-four pieces of tat?

(Other than turfing out the crap at the back of the warehouse).

Predator Badlands was really good. Didn't miss a beat, loved thd world building and all the critters, and lots of nods to other movies in the franchise. Excellent lead characters, and I now want a <redacted> as a pet of my own. If you haven't seen it, would recommend you go!

Right, somewhere, I had words that I was trying to write, no clue what they were about.

The last few months, between the #LeaseExtension, the poor kitty, and my stupid back, have kicked my arse out the window, but things do seeeeeeeem (looks behind he door) to be settling down again...

Wait... and you can apparently 'chat to Jesus' with another AI shitbot, including access to Satan for 'premium users'.

Whether they know your Mom, of course, is a different question entirely.

Just seen that AI-of-your-dead-Mom thing, and ALL of the nope.

There are no moral barriers any more, are there? No respect, no decency, not even a thought as to whether they 'should', they only know they CAN, so fuck you.

Thank you for all the messages of support for little Pixie yesterday.

She went peacefully, but the hole she leaves is very real. This morning was the first time in this flat (nine years) that I’ve got up and not had a small, hungry. furry thing trying to trip me over as she runs under my feet...
November 15, 2025 at 7:43 AM
And she's gone.

Our little Pixie has put up an incredibly brave fight, but enough was enough.

Rest well, little friend.
