The Year 1 & 2 kids from Calmore Infants School built this display piece today in just 4 hours. They made every part of this, including the huge Earth shape. I was in charge of glue and encouragement 😁👍

My first attempt at negative-space painting
A light wash, & sea salt, followed by numerous layers of blue-green watercolor, reserving the lights as each successive layer of leaves get darker & deeper in tone

#Ferns are an example of #fractals in #nature, showing self-similarity, where the overall structure is repeated in smaller scales.

You can see parts of the fractal self-similarity with the horizontal branch structure repeated in the diagonal branches and their smaller little branches - like the veins of leaves or tree branches. Intertwined tree trunk(s) seen at Padley Gorge, an ancient woodland in the Peak District with mossy rocks, trees, a brook and small waterfalls. It is a temperate rainforest, one of the most inland examples in the UK, known for its ancient oak and birch trees, high humidity, and frequent rainfall which create the lush conditions necessary for this type of ecosystem. Padley Gorge is a deep, narrow valley in the Peak District, Derbyshire. It is a remnant of an ancient woodland ecosystem, home to a diverse range of flora, including rare lichens and mosses. Key features include the Burbage Brook, which runs through the gorge, and the dense canopy formed by the oak and birch trees.

I had a fabulous day today at West Moors Middle School, working with groups from Year 5, 6, 7 and 8. We took inspiration from the work of Keith Haring, creating our own 'human pyramid' as part of a teamwork display. 😎

Today, I’ve been working with the Year 5 classes at Birchwood Primary. They are reading ‘Clockwork’ by Philip Pullman, so using that as inspiration, we made Sir Ironsoul, the mechanical knight from the story. 🤩

We are loving maths week! We have been exploring patterns using “jelly beans” outside on the tuff trays and using our bodies to follow patterns on the floor. We also noticed numerals on the floor and have been moving in different ways to get across to the other side. @dalmainps.bsky.social
