I love getting out into the world. Heaps of interests, from nature, sports, gaming to art. I think & feel too much, and write about it.
This weekend is the Montreal tattoo convention. I decided to drop by, jetlag be damned, mainly motivated that my old artist would be there. It'd be cool to say hi!

...and then he had this one-eyed Hannya mask drawing and he had time and guys I shouldn't be let into places without an adult.

I'm savoring my last night in Bosnia and Europe in the most important way: drinking the local brew, people watching, and enjoying the moment. I love this place and the friends that have made my travels meaningful, fun and memorable. I'm getting mushy tipsy so all I'll say is that I love you all.

I'll write more when I have the time and energy to do so, but here's a few photos. I enjoy wandering the residential neighborhoods. The Old Town is gorgeous but an intense tourist frenzy and a very different experience. Bullet holes in buildings are a sobering reminder of Bosnia's recent history.

The greatest gift: I protested when Doug started pulling up his garlic to give me one, it being his favorite thing to grow and eat. He'd already been so generous! He didn't listen. I thanked him profusely and it didn't feel like enough.
I put a couple of cloves into my lentils tonight.

It was really special. I think I hung around listening, learning and chatting for about 30 minutes. People are friendly and create wonderful things.

There was much more that I didn't photograph, I was enjoying my time too much. Cucumbers, cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes, runner beans, arugula, carrots, were some of the other edible plants he was growing.
I especially appreciated the poppies.

Tomato plants. I didn't take many photos but there were a lot more, four or five different varieties. I believe the one he gave me was a Sunburst. He said his favorites were Russian Reds, but they had yet to ripen.

Next, many herbs. I tried four varieties of thyme. Rosemary, Basil, savory, oregano - the flowers for which were outstanding. There were at least nice bees at any time going to town within them.

He was especially proud of this box that he built - something to keep the bugs and birds out but the moisture in, Calgary being a very dry climate! Three varieties of lettuce, kale, Swiss chard, cabbages. I'm probably forgetting things. He gave me lettuce to sample.

Fava beans were next. The flowers were so interesting! There were a couple of pods lower down growing but not quite ready yet. Doug had been regularly harvesting his produce as they came up.

Next were some of the herbs and several large raspberry bushes. I regret that many more raspberries met their end at this time.

After chatting for a bit he asked if I wanted a tour and I didn't hide my enthusiasm.
The poppies were blooming, next to some zucchini plants and I forget what else.

Today, I had an encounter that I will be thinking about for a long time.

I'm visiting my old stomping grounds of Calgary, Alberta, to attend a wedding. It was a spectacular day and I went cycling (again) after work. I swung by my old beloved neighborhood, which I still adore.

Everyone: meet Doug.

Look what I found yesterday in the bookstore - tales by my friend @tkingfisher.com ! :D
Despite already owning a digital copy of Swordheart, I bought them both - I wanted this lovely version to be a part of my physical collection.
