I like talking about things that start with “p” like politics (pragmatic progressive), psychedelics, psychoanalysis, philosophy, Portland, the Pacific Northwest & “m”—music, mushrooms. Parent of 2 teens. Daimista (IYKYK).
Yeah, as I’ve replied to a couple other folks I always thought you needed to cook the weed and fat for a little while, didn’t think a short microwaving would be sufficient.

Now is it as effective at getting all the THC into the butter/oil?

The “Isaac Chotiner wants to interview me” of Elizabethan England?

How has no one mentioned Ozzy Osbourne yet?
November 27, 2025 at 5:25 PM
Yeah, I’d always thought it took longer to I think the term is “carboxylate” the cannabis to make the THC bioavailable orally but maybe that’s just because the only method I’ve ever used was put it in a little slow cooker with a bunch of butter then go about your day for a few hours

Yeah, if you didn’t note my second post there about Ludacris, he’s another solidly middle-class guy.

“How many seem new?” can be shelved for a later time.
November 27, 2025 at 5:13 PM
How often do artists seem dangerous anymore?

Maybe it’s just that pop trends have veered away from hip hop & hard rock lately & will someday veer back, but I can’t recall the last time I heard of a new hot artist who seemed dangerous in any way

Lil Jon’s backstory is probably not what you’d expect

bsky.app/profile/cyan...
Lil Jon from the Georgia delegation at the DNC fame of course.

When he was at his peak popularity in the early ‘00s I heard he was the son of two neurosurgeons. In fact he’s the son of a pediatrician and an aerospace engineer IIRC.

I’ll take this opportunity to go on the record that the Busta/Janet Jackson song “What’s It Gonna Be” is an absolute banger & maybe the best of all the gruff male rapper/smooth R&B lady collabs that were so popular at the turn of the millennium
November 27, 2025 at 5:05 PM
Relatedly on the topic of early-‘00s Atlanta hip hop, Ludacris is from a solidly middle-class family & was like a straight-A student at a Magnet school (again, IIRC)

That’s it! Thank you!

The bartenders hand that’s holding the glass looks off to me, like the pinky and ring finger are kinda smudged together
November 27, 2025 at 7:26 AM
Yeah, even as a white southwesterner Yankee would not go over well where I grew up
November 27, 2025 at 7:03 AM
Probably shows up in white blood cell counts as well I’d think since vitals *and* bloodwork were offered as separate categories

A Scanner Darkly? Since you led off with PKD…

“The Dominican Republic has stepped up & offered us primo shit that’s barely been stepped on. Our warfighters offer a manly thank you to our Dominican allies”
November 27, 2025 at 6:53 AM
I really liked A Scanner Darkly, think the rotoscoping was used to great effect to depict the unreality those guys were living in. Watched the earlier Linklater rotoscope one that I can’t recall the name when I was really high & it is definitely on the bong rip wavelength

It’s really a blast, most of it isn’t so much memoir as her journal from the time & it has a real Mad Men but acid instead of scotch vibe

She eventually went off the rails and formed sort of a little sex cult around her in the later ‘70s IIRC
November 27, 2025 at 6:35 AM
Honestly I mostly just remember viscerally hating it. And that scene towards the end with Jennifer Connolly.

Leto loses an arm, his mom gets chased by a refrigerator? Vague memories of that stuff

If you’re into this sort of thing my favorite time capsule of this “gentlemanly Huxlean era” is this memoir by one of the people running UCLAs studies of psychedelics & psychedelic therapy in the late ‘50s/early ‘60s, Betty Eisner, available in PDF form from MAPS:

God I fucking hated Requiem For a Dream though

The carpet forming patterns in Fear & Loathing was the first time I’d seen an accurate depiction of that particular common effect of psychedelics.

Nowadays there’s great videos on YouTube accurately recreating all kinds of psychedelic visuals, we’ve solved depicting that one aspect of it.

So the cuck chair would be the toilet for extra humiliation in this setup?

Risks being found hot by these freaks but I guess as long as we on the outside never have to hear from them again it wouldn’t really matter
November 27, 2025 at 4:12 AM
There’s also an Izzy involved

Luckily Lizzo doesn’t seem to be implicated
