It’s important to think of this systemically. Women are less likely to land managers and agents to begin with, and then less able to be able to transform successes or even jobs into higher visibility and more attention in the town. The reason they do so well in contests is many are read blind.
The number of women screenwriters on this years Blacklist is... abysmal?

Why aren't more women percolating up to fav unproduced screenplays in LA when women fill the contests, workshops, labs, and other unpaid opportunities.

Are women getting read in the right places to cut through?

Thanks to #theseaboardreviewofbooks for featuring my review of #JohnCullen's Curling Rocks!: Chronicles of a Roaring Game, a comprehensive, fun history of a sport too often stereotyped as being fusty. What!? No way! [email protected] shorturl.at/BQUOx
Curling Rocks!: Chronicles of The Roaring Game, by John Cullen
Long considered fusty, curling is enjoying a comeback. This book has the game's how-to’s and history – and is sheer fun, besides.

A photo of a simple tangle of rope, snapped on our summer holiday—if you ask me, it’s a mermaid clinging to the corner of a lobster cage. Once she was pulled from the depths of the ocean and struck by sunlight, she was transformed.

On this day in 1989, an armed gunman murdered 14 women at École Polytechnique de Montréal. Another ten women and four men were injured.
The anniversary of the massacre is commemorated annually on Dec. 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

I strongly identified with this video. I am an introvert, but most people (outside of close friends and family) who see me at work events assume I'm an extrovert.

To those who think introvert = shy, I recommend Susan Cain's "Quiet: The Power Of Introverts In A World That Can't Stop Talking."

I just heard Tayari Jones discuss her new book, "Kin", with Jill Cox-Cordova for the Opening Keynote of the PRH Winter Book & Author Festival, and wow, what an inspirational conversation. Thank you both!

So many gems about history, love, empathy and writing advice.

I second this book recommendation—Susan Cain’s Quiet was so helpful to me—both in my personal life and as a teacher.

My copy of an old project came in the mail today. 3 years ago I attended a conference at UBC that paired cartoonists with researchers working in the field of migration with the goal of creating comics together. It was a very interesting experience.
