I tell new Kid Lit writers this all the time, and half the time they don't believe me. Focus more on what's RELEVANT to a kid's life than what's "appropriate." Share things kids already know to be true, rather than trying to teach a lesson or moral. Don't be the "How do you do, fellow kids?" meme
Write the book if your heart. Write the books you needed. But remember that there can be a big difference between what you think kids need and what they want. The world today isn’t the world of when you were growing up. Kids can spot preaching, however sneaky you are, a mile away.
