The part where they threatened to break a judge’s car windows should be a bigger story … they feel comfortable treating judges this way, which means they are being told that they can do literally anything to nearly everyone

Making fun of this for being pretty stupid is understandable, but I want to point out the Prosperity Gospel influence. The idea that people are rich or (now) healthy bc they are morally deserving, and the opposite that people are poor or sick bc they deserve to be poor or sick is all over this
Markwayne Mullin: "Reward people for being healthy. Think about this. Healthcare is the only industry that you're not rewarded for taking care of your responsibility. If you think about homeowners insurance, if you're within 500 feet of a fire hydrant, your insurance goes down."

Sophia has been popular for a while now, I thnk (like Emma). When my older was in 1st or 2nd grade, Frozen had just come out, and at Halloween all the Sophias were Elsas. Not kidding
If I’m still teaching in 18 years(?!), here’s the top names of the kids I’ll have in class then:

Olivia
Amelia
Sophia
Emma
Isabella
Charlotte
Eliana
Ellie

Noah
Liam
Oliver
Elijah
Mateo
Levi
Lucas
Ezra

Actually fairly similar to what I’m seeing now

Are any of them surprises?

These people are flat out lying to you about health care and health insurance
Cassidy: "If she goes and gets 2 types of shampoo & one is a dollar cheaper, she'll get the cheaper one & the other lowers their price. Once you give her the power of making the decision, she's gonna shop -- that begins to save her money and squeezes waste out of the healthcare system."

It’s funny how all of the free speech scolds, from the editorial staff of The Atlantic to the New York Times, Jonathan Haidt and FIRE to Robbie Soave, are utterly silent on a wave of mass firings over speech — the very thing they claimed to care about. Zero to say about discipline and censorship.
New: Reuters has tallied job losses, suspensions and investigations stemming from the reaction to Charlie Kirk's Sept. 10 assassination. Its findings: More than 600 Americans have been punished, and the figure is likely to be an under-count.

Few things bug me more than higher ed leaders saying that we lost our mission and lost the trust of the public, when we have actually been the target of a decades-long smear campaign by the right wing that worked. The moment we’re losing our mission is right now, in capitulation.

Bingo.

And imagine the Democratic politician who said this did so as he sat next to the podcaster's assassin whom he reminded everyone was his close personal friend
Imagine if a Democratic politician said “a lot of people didn’t like him” with respect to that assassinated podcaster. Seriously.

Journalists, why not reach out to some of the fine people in my replies to ask them how the British Library cyberattack of 2023 has had an impact on their research, their creative work, and their careers? This could make for a powerful piece revealing the human side to the damage this has done.
I have been WAITING for a journalist to write this story.

I specialize in manuscripts produced in England between 1300 and 1500. If this had occurred in the midst of writing my dissertation or first book, it would have exploded my career.
I’ve written a piece on the curious lack of media and political interest in the issues faced by our national @britishlibrary.bsky.social. This is strange given we live in a world where ideas, knowledge and research are a long-term source of innovation and insight

The British library is in crisis: why does nobody care?
The widespread indifference to the British Library's crippling cyberattack demonstrates a perilous failure to value the knowledge infrastructure vital for national prosperity
