Looking through some old footage of Farnborough 1952, and there is this short clip of the majestic and out of time Saunders-Roe Princess flying boat. She could carry 102 passengers in rather more comfort than the 100-odd plus you can squeeze into an A220.

#OTD in 1941 the proverbial hit the fan when Eighth Army gave the order ‘pop’ to Tobruk Fortress, meaning they should break out to the southeast through the siege lines.

All hell broke loose as the attack ran smack into the combined German-Italian force ready to attack Tobruk two days later.
Making Sense of the Tobruk Breakout
Background I have written a few posts about the Tobruk breakout (see here, here, here, and here), and thought a map and a complete overview of the code names for the objectives maybe helpful. This …

The Witkoff-Dmitriev plan is even more amateurish than I imagined. It favours Russia although does contain elements that Russia will not like. Premature leaking means that it is no more than work in progress. Here is an annotated version (This is free). open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/t...?

We now know a bit more about the process which led to the new peace plan and we now have a copy of its contents, to which I will turn soon.

He was a gifted theatre performer who was a leading actor at Stratford, an acclaimed radio host and a wood carver.

It comes from the archive of a goldsmith named Nabû-zeru-iddin in the heart of ancient Assyria. We’ve got someone left on read, a lawsuit, a mean step-mom, and people who get drunk and steal silver.

Implying that the "cause of our division" is too many care workers, as Mahmood does here, is both absurd and sinister.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood made more explicit her argument that when ethnic minorities face racism, "we have no choice but to ask: what is the cause of our division"

Her answer is the level of net migration, 2019-23 causes racism. (She on Monday said it was caused by the scale of asylum)

“To be sat there with this material in front of you that is just really not worth anyone’s time, when you could be spending that time actually engaging with something worthwhile, is really frustrating,” he said.
