#introduction

I’m currently a high school teacher who works with students with a wide range of disabilities and interests —

and coincidentally, that describes me as well

things I love include art, books, music, the outdoors, food, sudden mushrooms, slang, photography, and youthful energy

it’s a bit wild that san francisco is deep into mourning for the cat killed by a waymo (RIP kit kat, you seemed like a good beast) but meanwhile humans killed 43 other humans last year and that’s no big deal

this story somehow makes me incredibly angry
"When an off-camera female reporter... began to ask if there was anything 'incriminating' in the Epstein emails, Trump pointed a finger in her face. 'Quiet. Quiet, Piggy,' he said menacingly."

Tell me again how it's women who are ruining the workplace?

a couple of post climate-disaster novels:
All the Water in the World, Eiren Caffall
Down in the Sea of Angels, Khan Wong

and I just finished Kazuo Ishiguro’s newish novel Klara and the Sun — loved it, am considering reading it with my high school class in the spring
haven't asked in awhile. what's something you read lately that you loved? A book? An article? A poem? A message written across the sky composed entirely of crows?

nothing like listening to several small somethings die gruesomely outside your bedroom window in the night to start your work week off right

i put a napkin over my cat and it made him ridiculously proud

he wore it for close to an hour. he strolled in front of the other household animals with regal hauteur

today’s tiny painting is a present for my beloved boss

i had to break out the watercolors, cuz that’s her favorite, though i haven’t used them in a while

i gave myself an hour to work on this and just about made it. rebuking the siren song of perfectionism was the challenge

I love this

(as a teacher, I’m proud to take time explaining to students nearly every day why I hate ai)

My biggest fear when visiting a foreign country is that after a day of wandering I'll happen upon a little museum of me. Shuffling along with other tourists through rooms of my discarded effects and lost memories, unable to translate the labels. Learning nothing about myself.

I wanted to share probably the most important sermon I’ve given and it’s while I’m being arrested. It’s torture pure and simple what happens at #Broadview. I’m ok, though I was thrown to the ground and choked with my pectoral cross. A review of the video shows I was peaceful - did I deserve this?

the ai “awakening” described here seems like a phenomenon of viral narcissism, a psychological infection that leads ppl to conclude they are MORE, somehow, than other ppl

and ultimately, it reads as a rejection of human thinking. other humans are not enough, they have become beneath them

So geeked to hold this gem by @tomgauld.bsky.social in my hands! While I’ve read most of these in @newscientist.com great to have them in one sharp book! I’m particularly fond of the ones where he plays with comics conceptually, but all of them are brilliant & funny, he never misses! Good stuff!

it is so poignant but also a touch maddening to listen to my elderly boss navigate sign in processes online

she is now mumbling about how the google has taken over the world

maybe the craziest thing that I experience as a high school teacher is that when I figure out how to give kids work that they consider relevant and interesting, there is zero pushback

my spouse apparently tried to explain confirmation bias to the dog this morning to give him a little more insight into his social anxieties (the dog’s, not the spouse’s, because my spouse understands his anxieties pretty well) but the dog was not persuaded

people are exuberant sometimes when you provide the space and the crayons
