What little I've seen of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON is absolute dogwater, so imagine my surprise at finding A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS delightful. I'm well past done with this franchise's political vantage, and thus relieved at the shifts in perspective and tone. For @theplaylist.bsky.social:
‘A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms’ Review: Ser Duncan The Tall Brings Heart & Humor To Westeros In 'Game Of Thrones' Prequel
The latest 'Game of Thrones' spinoff, 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,' is set 100 years before the original show is a fun delight.

I speak from experience: often all that it takes to send a guy like the braying train jackass packing is a few well-aimed curses. They're not used to being confronted by the public *in public*.
My husband was on the 2 train and a guy started braying about how Renee Good deserved to die and her "lesbian lover" did too. My husband got pissed and said, "You're absolutely disgusting." "Fuck you!" the guy said. "Fuck YOU!" my husband said. The guy left.

See? We just need to talk to each other.

Ralph Fiennes, from this day until his expiration, should be contractually required to put on an outre and joyful dance number in every *and any* film he appears in, regardless of either genre or the scope of his role.

Anyway, I liked 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE.

The number of people on my “dead to me for swiping away green-lit assignments from me” list is growing, and honestly, I really don’t like it! You’ll know you’re on the list if you randomly feel a burdensome chill flow from your heart through your veins.

What a nest of monsters we live in.
A woman recording an ICE agent tells him "Shame on you."

The agent responds, "Have you all not learned from the past couple of days?"

"Learned what?" she asks

Then he knocks her phone out of her hand

I didn't bring up her son once in our conversation, though I was tempted simply to say "congratulations"; even that felt tacky. Besides: she's working on a new film on the other side of the world and we had SALAAM BOMBAY! to talk about. So enjoy my interview with Mira Nair, for JoySauce!
Mira Nair takes a look back at her 1988 film, 'Salaam Bombay!'
The filmmaker's debut feature changed government policy on street children, and is her latest entry into the Criterion Collection.

WE ARE STILL HERE: *****. A horror movie about the regional history of New England’s deeply insular rural pockets, and also about cinder-spackled ghosts ripping apart men’s rib cages. Profound!

It’s still 2025, which means this list of the year’s best cinematography - which I had the pleasure of working on with @theplaylist.bsky.social - is still in date! A good year for lovely movies.

MARTY SUPREME: **. The closest Safdie will get to autobiography until he finishes growing up. At least the ping pong is exciting; it’d likewise delight me that the supporting cast runs circles around Chalamet, too, if it wasn’t so embarrassing to watch.
