Last night about 5pm I had to cross Centre Street in Chinatown. It was me and an elderly person walking towards me in the cross walk. I had lots of time arriving late but the other individual was not a quick mover and the light started to count down.

It is striking to see how people in the same place have such wildly divergent understandings of reality (or what they understand as reality)... maybe it has ever been thus, but it seems increasingly polarized

Maybe some of the city’s budget should go to combating misinformation.

So many people are reaching for easy fixes to complex problems.

I’m so sad listening to such disadvantaged people being manipulated out of reality.

This is taken from Calgary’s 2016 Pedestrian Strategy.

We were targeting 4 and with more than a month to go, we are at 11 people dead after they were struck by a driver while walking.

In 2016, Calgary released its Pedestrian Strategy.

The document contained a section called “A Vision for 2025” that prophesied what it would be like in 10 years.

Well, it’s 2025. How did we do Calgary?

Hey yyc is anyone going to be following budget close enough tomorrow that they can give me a heads up when agenda item 9.3.2 begins?

I’m picturing my day looking like a sit com where the main character goes on two dates at the same time and needs help pulling that off.

4 people run down in one single day.

There is a war on our streets, and the humans are losing.

Meanwhile, no new money is proposed in the upcoming city budget to tackle this issue.

The issue is speed and mass.

We have accepted vehicles that are too large and accepted speeds that are too fast to be safe when operating near points of interaction with people walking.

What fatality risk do you accept? Find it on graph and you’ll see the corresponding speed.

YYC can you think of any main streets that could benefit from more customers? If so watch this.
WATCH: Seriously, if you’re following ANY bike-lane debate, you HAVE TO WATCH this news story. You actually can’t make this up. Ford claims without evidence that bike-lanes are bad for small business, and THE ACTUAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION obliterates him with data.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.
Annex businesses tell Ford to back off Bloor bike lanes
Stores in the Annex say the Bloor bike lanes have been a big boost to business. As Michelle Mackey reports, the neighborhood's BIA wants the province to back off its new bill that could see the lanes ...

What do the three locations have in common?

They all have speed limits of 50km/h or higher. At that speed the risk of fatality is almost 80%.

This should be treated like the crisis that it clearly is.

If any other act of violence killed 3 people in 2 days in Calgary it would be front page news.

perfect example of the bias @drtaragoddard.com writes about.

Instead of discussing "stranger danger" with my kids I go on endlessly about cars

There are 86 days left this year, meaning the cycle track has had an average of 1,255 riders/day.

That sounds like a successful and well used cycle track! 😀

I’m so mad I started carrying this sign around with me where ever I went last week. When I am not out and about it’s in my front window.
You too can carry a sign or put it in your window. Funding education should not be controversial.
