Every significant road scheme, almost without exception, is sold as the solution to traffic congestion.

As soon as the lobbyists get their way, they're on to the next sales job. Consequences are of no interest or concern to them.

The insanity of the roads lobby is that every new road which (inevitably) becomes jammed is treated as the justification for the next pie-in-the-sky scheme.

TII occasionally acknowledges the reality of induced traffic, while insisting that demand management is a political question.
