RIP Rob Reiner. Plenty of more heralded directors would kill to have popular classics like THE PRINCESS BRIDE, WHEN HARRY MET SALLY, A FEW GOOD MEN and STAND BY ME on their filmography. A craftsman of the highest rank and a fine actor too. Immortal forever for his role in his own THIS IS SPINAL TAP.

Larry Hama made a boatload of money for Marvel and Hasbro in the ‘80s by turning toy tie-in GI Joe into a smash so they let him do this waaaay more eccentric project with Ron Wagner as a reward. Dystopian ninja commando against an omnipotent tyrant. As awesome as weird-ass 80s mainstream comics get.

Took my horror-loving 15 year old to see INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS on a big screen at Home MCR tonight. My first viewing in maybe 20 years. Ageing supremely well. Brilliantly written & directed. Kaufman really was a master. A horror movie for grown-ups: unmatched paranoia in that first act.

RIP Peter Watkins, one of the great British filmmakers and perhaps the great political director of his era. THE WAR GAME and PUNISHMENT PARK - both decades old - are as fresh and urgent and compelling as ever today. An underrated stylist too with a great understanding of his medium. A unique artist.

This record is one of the great rock albums of the 1980s. Massively underappreciated band.

RIP Diane Keaton, a genuinely important actress who was also a movie star & interesting filmmaker. Aside from the brilliance of her work with Woody Allen, so great in THE GODFATHER, REDS and LOOKING FOR MR GOODBAR. Then a second career in 2000s rom-coms, where you believed Keanu would fall for her.

I absolutely love the ‘60s issues of Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD after Steranko left, when a series of other artists tried to “do” Steranko to varying effect. Here we have Frank Springer X 2, Herb Trimpe and a young Barry Windsor Smith.
