After a bunch of Jays fans were mad about players not getting Gold Gloves or winning other awards, and then winning a couple awards ...

I'm now seeing other team's fans mad at their guy not winning this award or that; I'm guessing that this is a fan favorite - complaining why YOUR guys didn't win!

It's worse than just risk pools, it's misunderstanding how insurance works in general.

If a shingle falls off your house or your toaster goes kaput, you can probably swing it to fix that.
But if wind rips your roof off, you need a new roof tomorrow, and that is big $$$.
Tell me you don’t understand risk pools without telling me you don’t understand risk pools

It was a devastating loss and not the result that the Team or us fans deserved.

But, I'm not disappointed in the least; they played their hearts out, they gave us a World Series run and are just the best team we've had in the last ten years.

Grateful, humble, loved the entire season.

This group is the true underdogs; lots of guys who are super nice, who never give up on themselves. As a fan, I'm just blown away. They've exceeded all expectations for improvement over last year.
A bit nervous but super excited, #GoJaysGo !!

It's crazy that in the blink of an eye, you can go from down 2-1 to up 3-2. Incredibly blessed to go to the Game 5 watch party at the Rogers Center, and watch the Jays do their thing.

As Vladdy says, need one more.
#GoJaysGo
While it's heartbreaking to lose in 18 innings, the Jays have shown themselves to be a pretty decent pitching and defensive club; I think they can feel good that they were able to hang in there that long.

Hoping for a better result today, do what you know how to do boys!

Vladdy, loving the moment. #BornReady #GoJaysGo
Vlad Guerrero Jr, Hazel Mae, the city of Toronto, and a cameraman create an all-time baseball moment.

I'm sitting here listenting to Daulton Varsho's walk up song, hoping the boys find it deep down to win today and force game 7.

One day, one game at a time. #GoJaysGo

Wow, so my browser crashed and when I logged back into Bsky, it took me to the following feed by default.

Just going to say I have followed a lot of awesome people and I forgot how amazing that feed actually is; going to hang out there more often now.

Saw one of the hardcore MAGA influencers on the bad site complaining because Coney Barrett isn't towing the line quite like they want.

These people don't want people that do jobs, they want cheerleaders who do exactly what they think they should.

Funny that even super-biased picks are not perfect!

The chief twit is complaining on the bad site about how the US will go bankrupt since 25% of revenues go to paying down debt now.

The party he helped get in is giving massive tax cuts to guys like him, and when he had a chance he made a penny or two of savings on a dollars worth of spending.
June 17, 2025 at 4:03 PM
Well, lots complain how polluted their feed on Twit has become, but now Loomer is showing up on my feed.

I've 100% never interacted with her, & I think it shows how desperate the chief twit has become in bending the FYP to the right.

Only upside is she's apparently mad about flags of the Ukraine!

I don't write enough here lately but was checking in at the bad place, and after pushing back mildly against some false info almost 100% of my feed is far right influencers.

But let's hear more about how the Chief Twit brought "balance" to the force or something.

Sorry, from the other place...
elonmusk: In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people

So, a few things.
First, I don't follow and almost never interact with the chief twit.
2nd, dude couldn't get a court judge elected in Wisconsin.

Most Amer. hate him.

& a broader look at NSF cuts across all funded fields by my Upshot colleagues:

www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
Trump Has Cut Science Funding to Its Lowest Level in Decades (Gift Article)
The lag in funding extends far beyond D.E.I. initiatives, affecting almost every area of science: chemistry, computing, engineering, materials and more.

This is more than awful; it's not just a year or two impact, it'll derail research for a decade or more, as projects that got cut or were approved and now don't get funding will be very hard to put back together.

Incredible own goal for no reason.
I started my first tenure track job and then the pandemic happened. I started my second tenure track job and now all grant budgets are cut. How am I supposed to do my job? I’m so tired of admins and the grant office telling us to apply for grants under these impossible conditions. I just wanna sleep
🧪 Detailed data viz NYT article, out today, on the extent of funding cuts at the National Science Foundation.

This "broken pie chart" is neat & new to me: Powerfully shows the slowdown in new NSF awards across areas.

Okay, my terrible #leafs take is here.

They weren't THAT bad this year. Two of their loses they played well; and if one of the other two they'd played like they did in Game 6, then they had a real shot at winning the series.

How do we get THAT team to show up for Round 2 and beyond?
May 21, 2025 at 2:29 PM
This is WORSE than I thought.

Submitting an application to the NSF is not easy; there are lots of i's to dot and t's to cross, and generally a few people have to come together to apply as a group.

That these bozos, without understanding or background, are weighing in IN ANY WAY on *APPROVED* apps
Read the whole thing. You won’t be surprised, but you should be outraged.

The NSF is supposed to be a body that is devoid of political influence, making decisions based on science. And for most of it's history, it has done so admirably.

That people are resigning in protest is MORE than troubling; this should be a 5-alarm fire. This is about ALL research being impacted!!
"For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging."

Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council.

I wrote about my decision in TIME.

Why I’m Resigning from the NSF and Library of Congress

Chief Twit is claiming that doge is "fixing" the Federal Gov't computer systems.

I'm sure that thousands of consultants and employees who spent years or even decades built good and reliable systems, and his minions have NOT fixed anything in the couple months max they had access to things.

Senator Josh Hawley mentioned on the BadSite(tm): We just saw Trump speak for 90 minutes. Biden couldn’t even stand for 90 seconds

==

I watched a few minutes of him talking; it's the ramblings of a moron. He goes into a tangent every two sentences, and makes the same remark again and again.
April 30, 2025 at 10:22 PM
From the bad site, head twit's bud Jason writes, QT Trump:
Gotta be honest, it’s a great deal for Canada!

I would hold out to be 3-5 states

What % of Canadians would have to vote to join the USA for you to think this is a good idea? 80%?

Canada has 10 provinces & a few territories now.
