To get around discarding to hand size at end step? If you had 8 cards in hand before casting the cantrip, you go down to seven, pass the turn not having to discard and then draw back up to 8 on the next players turn.

Look up an "arena budget" deck. There are plenty of lists that are low on rare and mythic wildcards that are good for playing in the lower ladder ranks. Then you can build up to something that you like once you recognize some cards you like.
