whenever i see this kind of all or nothing discourse online i have to remind myself that it's not unlikely i'm seeing the opinion of an actual 14 year old. not always, obviously, but we have the opinions of children inflicted upon us online more often than we realize

I know this is a lot of negative but I did have a good time with it. I really want them to make more Metroid Prime, but if they do I have a feeling it won't get back to what I loved most about 1 and 2. Hopefully they prove me wrong!

But the bones are wrong. I should be excited about driving on a sick bike but the desert is dull. Why do I need this giant hub with nothing but crystals I need to grind in it, and the occasional item. They wanted and open world but couldn't find a way to make it fun. Breath of the Wild this is not.

Prime 4 saw 3 making zones more piecemeal and characters talking at a silent Samus and doubled down on it, and I really dislike it. Playing it feels great, bosses are fun, scanning gives me juicy deets on random unimportant life forms. That stuff still hits!!

I can't help but think about Dread when I talk about Prime 4. Dread isn't perfect but it did such a good job of being a modern version of the 2D Metroid formula. Prime 4 isn't really a good modernization of Prime.

I'm super impressed with the way the game accommodates dual stick and motion. You'll never catch me dead using motion or the switch 2's mouse function, but they fucking work, and if 3's your fave it's all here. I don't understand you but I respect you nonetheless.

If they weren't there the game could focus more on this planet, the disaster that hit the people here that you're addressing, AND on Sylux, while still hitting the more atmospheric and lonely feeling that people (myself included) love about Metroid

Imo the federation troopers you interact with aren't as annoying as online discourse makes them out to be. They're fine. But they're JUST fine, which makes them distracting. I don't care about them, and they're in your ear A LOT.

But goddamn did I enjoy being in a Prime game again. Scanning and locking on and exploring what there is to poke around in. It feels great! Dodging in particular feels killer.

You got a big boring desert you bike through and dungeons with a discrete entrance that you move through. It sucks! One of "metroidvania" as a genre's strong points is disguising linearity through some openness and interconnection, and this game doesn't even try.

If you like an interconnected world that you explore and move through, not here. Segmenting out the zones like this makes the world feel smaller, not larger. Disliked this about 3 and this is that ramped up to 11
