🚨WHOA. The El Paso Medical Examiner says it will rule the death of a 55-year-old Cuban man at ICE's "Camp East Montana" tent camp as a homicide.

He was allegedly choked to death by a guard during a "struggle" after he refused to enter a housing unit without his medications.
By Douglas MacMillan When U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced the Jan. 3 death of detainee Geraldo Lunas Campos at a Texas detention camp, the agency said “staff observed him in distress,” and it gave no cause of death. An employee of El Paso County’s Office of the Medical Examiner told Lunas Campos’s daughter this week that, subject to results of a toxicology report, the office is likely to classify the death as a homicide, according to a recording of the conversation. In the recording, which the daughter shared with The Washington Post, the employee said a doctor there “is listing the preliminary cause of death as asphyxia due to neck and chest compression,” which means Lunas Campos did not get enough oxygen because of pressure on his neck and chest. Pending the results of a toxicology report, the staffer said on the recording, “our doctor is believing that we’re going to be listing the manner of death as homicide.” In an interview with The Post, Santos Jesus Flores, a man who says he was detained in the segregation unit the day Lunas Campos died, said he saw at least five guards struggling with Lunas Campos after he refused to enter the segregation unit, complaining that he didn’t have his medications. Flores said he saw guards choking Lunas Campos and heard Lunas Campos repeatedly saying, “No puedo respirar” — Spanish for “I can’t breathe.” Medical staff tried to resuscitate him for an hour, after which they took his body away, Flores said. “He said, ‘I cannot breathe, I cannot breathe.’ After that, we don’t hear his voice anymore and that’s it,” said Flores, who had contacted a family member of Lunas Campos, who in turn put him in touch with a Post reporter. The Post confirmed Flores was in Camp East Montana through ICE’s detainee locator.

so much to cover right now, but a thread i just want to throw out there from my reporting is that the car rental market in minneapolis is reportedly totally screwed up right now because ICE has cleared the inventory. rental companies should have to answer for supplying vehicles used in terror.

Sharing in case it helps you prepare. This preceded the tragic killing of Renee Good yeaterday. Team Public Works, Today, a crew of Public Works team members wearing City uniforms and badges were approached by ICE agents in S Mpls. The agents asked 3 team members for identification, all of whom were nonwhite. The agents did not interact with the 4th team member, who was white. Agents scanned identification documents, asked questions about citizenship, place of birth, and ultimately left. We expect the surge in immigration enforcement in the Twin Cities will continue and that tactics like this - targeting individuals based on the color of their skin - will persist. It is incredibly concerning, and I want to share the following information with all of you so you can feel prepared... ..It's unfair that our team members were subjected to this treatment. These are colleagues, friends, the people who help keep us safe when we're doing challenging work, help us laugh when we're feeling down, and lighten the workload when we're feeling tired. Let's stand together while we continue the work that keeps this city moving. Stay aware of your surroundings and if you are concerned, please talk to your supervisor.

Authorized Officers/Agents shall not discharge their firearms at the operator of a moving vehicle, vessel, or aircraft unless deadly force is necessary, that is, when the officer/agent has a reasonable belief that the operator poses an imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death to the officer/agent or to another person. a. Such deadly force may include a moving vehicle aimed at officers/agents or others present, but would not include a moving vehicle merely fleeing from officers/agents unless the vehicle or the escape of the subject poses an imminent threat of serious bodily injury or death to the officer/agent or to another person. b. The hazard of an uncontrolled conveyance shall be taken into consideration prior to the use of deadly force.

My anger at having to stand outside my kid’s school for two hours to ensure none of their classmates, parents, or teachers get kidnapped by my own government is only slightly tempered by the amazing outpouring of support from other parents and especially neighbors who stand against this bullshit.

I have talked to folks plugged in across the housing spectrum and this is necessary. People have lost income sheltering in place, as will working parents if there are more daycare raids and school closures. Targeting immigrant business means owners won't make payroll. Until ICE is out, NO EVICTIONS.
