Reading Parables of the Sower currently and just have concluded that Octavia Butler just doesn’t miss. It is just so eerily prescient and doubly terrifying that it’s also set in 2025.

I guess my sustainability position makes me a drug dealer…
It’s so important to understand WHY the new Senate bill has such drastic provisions to kill renewable energy

Fossil fuel industry lobbyists and Big Oil-funded activists have been ALL OVER the GOP in recent weeks, telling them that clean energy jobs are “fentanyl jobs” and “a cancer”
The Senate is about to destroy clean energy to give tax cuts to billionaires
The bill could pass within the next 24 hours.

I guess one of the climate upsides of the bbb is that it’s a full-throated endorsement of degrowth. Sure, it’s going to have terrible human costs and impoverish millions of Americans, but at least the people attending Bezo’s wedding this weekend will be happy.
Every major health system in Louisiana is warning Speaker Mike Johnson and the rest of the state's congressional delegation that the Senate GOP's Medicaid cuts "would be historic in their devastation."

As someone living in CO, I see a lot of outdoorsy people patting themselves on the back about getting Mike Lee to back down on public land sales who are now silent on the evisceration of renewables and the kneecapping of investment in the industries of the future. The work isn’t done people!

Have the senate dems considered just yoinking the text of the bbb and playing keep away?

This is one of most ghoulish things I’ve ever seen. The level of callousness and cruelty from this admin is truly staggering. The people involved should never know a moment peace for as long as they live.
Kristi Noem has been working with the producer of “Duck Dynasty” to pitch a reality TV show—titled “The American”—where immigrants will compete in a string of challenges across the country “for the honor of fast-tracking their way to U.S. citizenship,” according to a new report.
Noem Plots Reality Show Where Migrants Fight for Citizenship
A Homeland Security official told the Daily Beast that the show is in the early stages of vetting, though approval has not been given—or denied.

This isn’t particularly surprising considering toxic masculinity is basically a celebration of excessive consumption.
“Our results suggest that traditional gender norms, particularly those linking masculinity with red meat consumption and car use, play a significant role in shaping individual carbon footprints."

Dudes emit more greenhouse gases than women do. It's the cars—and the meat.
Gender roles "play a significant role in shaping individual carbon footprints,” study finds.

Coming back to Denver after two weeks of glorious public transit usage in France is a depressing reminder of how far behind the US is in terms of urbanism and basic quality of life. The small towns in Île-de-France are dense, walkable & connected by rail to Paris - it’s so convenient & pleasant.

I’m not religious now but was born into the Catholic Church and attended catholic school most of my edu. The adult converts weirded me out as they brought an evangelical zeal to Catholicism that’s very offputting. I appreciate that 1 of the Pope’s final acts was chiding JDV for being a bad Catholic.

Dems need to ensure that we’re not the party of the gerontocracy. We saw how well running old candidates that can’t sell their policy accomplishments worked for us with Biden. Those that have overstayed their welcome should get a handshake, a thanks for your service and a swift kick in the ass.
How Durbin plans to decide on another term:

"Whether I'm still physically able, mentally able to deal with the issues. This press conference is an indication that I still have my wits about me. And when it comes to the physical side of it, up and moving around, taking nourishment."

It’s easy to accumulate wealth today if you have no sense of shame. Our culture has made the attainment of wealth with no regard for the ethics underlying that pursuit practically a virtue. We’re living in the golden age of scams and grifts.
