I think the WAY bigger issue for him is going to be the podcast and guests. And that he's from "radical, dangerous California"
I think those are bigger issues for the general.
But I think your point is likely very true during the primary specifically.

So, I think part of the challenge is, you also have to think beyond just the primary. In particular on those two issues.

I'm not defending those current opinions. And I'm also not defending Newsom.
I'm merely saying sometimes we forget that our opinions on various topics might be the one that is viewed by the majority as extreme in that current moment.
Just something for people to think about & let sit with you.

I'm pretty much of the belief that no matter who the nominee is, it's going to piss off one group or another under our tent.

I think you're perhaps underselling how many candidates out up damaged by the end of the primary, in particular amongst low information voters.
But I hear and do agree with your larger point.

I think the challenge is, many people don't realize that if we spend the next 2 year criticizing every candidate to the moon, it becomes very hard to then pivot to asking everyone to vote for said person.
People have to figure out a balance between being critical but also doesn't shut the door.

Interesting list here. I think even as a Moderate Dem, I agree with a lot of this.

Yea, I think it's something honestly that both sides of the party suck at.
Like, it's REALLY ok to say that:
- Mamdani was a great candidate for NYC
- Span and Sherrill were fantastic for VA
- Newsom, fair or not, COULD be a great candidate for the moment that is 2028

And the thing I LOVE is, they’ve put themselves in such a corner with no way out.

I just cannot escape this feeling that I really wish this were all happening, like next summer.
While I don't think they'll get ANYTHING back on track, I'll never trust the American electorate to be swayed by the stupidest fucking thing....

I'm going to to try SUPER hard to ignore it but it's there for sure. And not uniquely a Newsom thing.
