The Home Secretary says "we have become the destination of choice in Europe, clearly visible to every people smuggler and would-be illegal migrant across the world"

That is a factually untrue claim: the Home Office shows that the UK is fifth, getting 1/10 claims, while Germany gets 1/5 claims

Call me hysterical, but I am having flashbacks to images from German history when the Government says they will take jewellery from refugees.

Mum: Do you want to own things and decide who you sleep with?
Teen: Yeah.
Mum: You're a feminist.

"Sadiq Khan will pocket an estimated £320m a year from motorists after hiking the congestion charge, The Standard can reveal" This is bordering on the misleading, if not actively so.
"Pocket" suggests he will himself get the money and sits within longstanding trend of misinformation about the mayor

the thing that strikes me about this — again, besides it being false — is the venom and disrespect for the people who come here to work and build better lives. they aren’t “servants.”
JD Vance: "Democrats' idea was the way you get more prosperity is that you import more and more low wage servants."

Can we just raise tax for people on decent incomes (and I include myself in this) and be done with it? And crack on actually making things better - for all of us - because lo and behold, the money I would save on tax doesn't buy me good schools, unis, roads, trains, prisons, GPs on my own.
God help us, it looks like utter chaos in there.
Starmer and Reeves ditch plans to raise income tax in budget

The volunteers were at Parliament today to hear the government announce that our beautiful memorial is to be made permanent. It was an emotional day, as we have fought so long and hard to ensure that our beloved dead are not forgotten. We are grateful and happy. ❤️

Hard to disagree.
in retrospect the metoo movement did not go too far and in fact should have been given spanish inquisition levels of power and authority

Yeah - I think an interesting part of housing discourse is, are you able to accept that it is in fact, not personal. It's not *personal* to say that I am a winner of our current policy mix and that frankly I need to end up losing out on this transaction in the long run. It's just true!
Part of their own personal mythology. Like everyone who went on about the 15% interest rates, at a time when a house was a fraction of real terms price, following the Truss budget.

Something absolutely perfect about Larry Summers riffing about the scourge of woke cancel culture being unfair to predatory men in a friendly email to his pal JEFFREY EPSTEIN.

Crikey. I don't know, is it more damning to be thought of as vile by decent people or by horrible people? Trump seems to unify both ends of the spectrum in realising that he is a predator.
NPR reported this morning that, based on their review of the #Epstein emails released yesterday, Trump’s name appeared more than 1,000 times in the document—

"I have met some very bad people, none as bad as #Trump. Not one decent cell in his body." - Jeffrey Epstein

I’ve just been asked by Waitrose to give feedback on my recent purchase of a loose lemon. It’s sitting in the fruit drawer in the fridge. Doesn’t seem to be bothered by the nearby apples and satsumas. Any other ideas for feedback? Is this normal behaviour by a supermarket?

Honestly, I did NOT have "punching the air and going HELL YES to Chris Patten" on my bingo card today. But what he says is SO rarely said and needed saying SO badly!

"How shall we treat Mr Farage's concerns? Shall we hail Brexit a tremendous success? Something that has cost the country billions?"
SUPERB and angrily unvarnished response, by former BBC chairman, Lord Patten.

"I don't think that we should allow ourselves to be bullied into thinking that the BBC is only any good, if it reflects the prejudice of the last person who shouted at it." ~AA
