It’s mildly interesting to see Pareto arguably praised/called for what economists would call natural experiments today: “the only thing we can do is to see whether we can find in a natural state in space and time those experiments which cannot be performed artificially.”

I’m asking because Ricardo appears to specifically allow for mobility of capital across borders, only mentions quantities of labor and not wages in his analysis, and applies the same logic to a two person shoe and hatmaking example in a footnote.

He’s in a ton of the documents spanning years too, including giving advice to Epstein on how to handle the press (House Oversight 022669).

I began reading one volume of a collection of his essays and other writings the other day, after only reading Homage to Catalonia and Animal Farm, and am quite impressed. Orwell can write!

So a monopoly that wants to sell a specific quantity can change the price s.t. utility maximizing consumers then decide to purchase that chosen quantity. No ideas about bargaining power necessary really!

That's not how I read Marshall's exposition of the law of demand for instance

Sen. Benjamin Wade introduced an amendment to the Fourteenth Amendment on the grounds that Sen. Fessenden implied(!) that not everyone born on American soil had always been born a citizen, and specifically said the children of diplomats would be the only exemption.
