In my business mentorship session, they talked a lot about AI that literally just does everything for you. Like literally all you do is just feed it a ton of websites and it'll create all of the connections, the analyses, figure out what's a hit topic or idea, create a podcast or video, graphics

Post by Paris Buttfield-Addison Please share: As a game development company called Secret Lab (with a space) Pty. Ltd., we've been dealing with an increasingly bizarre situation over the past few months. We've been receiving multiple phone calls from frustrated customers trying to reach Secretlab (no space) - the chair company. Not us. We make games, not chairs. At first, we assumed it was just confusion over similar names. We politely redirected callers and thought nothing more of it. But the volume kept increasing, and we started wondering: how exactly were these people getting our private business phone number? Last week, we decided to ask. The caller told us that their bank, the Commonwealth Bank, had given them our phone number as the contact for Secretlab, the chair company. We are not Secretlab. We are Secret Lab. We're a game development studio. We have absolutely no connection to the (much newer) furniture company whatsoever. We immediately filed a complaint with CommBank. Today, they called us back, and what we learned was even weirder. A CommBank staff member had used ChatGPT to search for a Secret Lab phone number and provided this information to their customer as the official contact for Secretlab. A major Australian bank gave out our private business phone number (which is also on our profiles as part of our own CBA accounts) to a third party, based this on results from an AI chatbot, did this without our knowledge or consent, and confused us with a completely different company. And who knows how many times they've done this? (continued in next image) (same image, alt text continued) During the call with CommBank today, their representative repeatedly referred to using ChatGPT as "a web search" (it's not), confirmed they don't have a Privacy Officer or Privacy Office (seriously?), couldn't clarify whether staff had used personal ChatGPT accounts or if the bank has a contractual relationship with OpenAI, and seemed surprised that this might be a problem. They strongly implied that their staff member used an un-authenticated personal ChatGPT. This represents a fundamental breach of privacy and a concerning misunderstanding of technology by a major financial institution. Banks handle our most sensitive personal information. If they're casually using AI chatbots to provide information without proper verification, what other corners are being cut? What other private details are being shared inappropriately? We've documented everything and are pursuing this matter further. No business should have to deal with their private contact details being distributed by a bank based on AI-generated information. If you're a CBA customer, you might want to consider what other "research" methods they're using when handling your requests. To CommBank: Please get your act together. Invest in proper privacy procedures, stop using ChatGPT as a phone book, and maybe consider hiring an actual Privacy Officer.
