Of course the main takeaway from all of this is that autism is women’s fault.

And it’s absolutely vile & hugely offensive
If you thought the PM’s speech was punchy, his foreword to the immigration white paper says high net migration has done “incalculable damage” to the country.

That is a serious shift in tone for a Labour government/party.

BBC: Why don't women use ChatGPT?

Woman: I tried it and it just barfed out useless garbage

BBC: Women don't use ChatGPT because it's too difficult for their pretty little heads
Bit of an odd story this one - the main analysis says women don't use AI because they lack STEM skills, confidence and value in the workplace. Yet the anecdotes suggest that women excel at communication, whether writing or interpersonal, and can spot ChatGPT's flaws

Why are fewer women using AI than men?
The use of artificial intelligence appears to have a significant gender imbalance.

Huge news from Turkey: Ekrem İ̇mamoğlu, Istanbul’s popular mayor and Erdogan opponent has been detained alongside a long list of his political allies. This comes hours after his decades long university diploma was revoked; today long list of alleged crimes, claiming he leads a criminal organization.

In an ideal world, every College and University in the States would have a mass protest and general strike tomorrow.

If you’re not pressing the pipette button with your own two thumbs then it doesn’t count as “active” research.

It’s just passive research with bubbles.
I am genuinely curious.

For the people saying writing grants and managing projects is not "conducting active research", what were your expectations for your principal investigator/ professor/group leader position?

What does "conducting active research" mean to you?
"A study of federally funded research projects in the United States estimated that principal investigators spend on average about 45% of their time on administrative activities related to applying for and managing projects rather than conducting active research"

Cutting it a bit fine, but here’s my review of the year in neuroscience for 2024

The eighth of these, would you believe? We’ve got dark neurons, tiny monkeys, the most complete brain wiring diagram ever constructed, and much more…

I often wonder how some academics are so confident in their scientific opinion, and whether I should have stronger opinions on specific theories. Then I realise I do have strong opinions on how little we actually know about the brain and that we should be less theoretically dogmatic.

People need to stop using being autistic as an excuse for being an arsehole. It just embeds misleading stereotypes.
Yes, being autistic can mean you find social interactions difficult, I know I can.
It doesn't mean you default to walking around with a sock on your c**k.

Vague, unconvincing studies always conclude "more research is needed" but if "needed" means "warranted", then sometimes it's just not.
