Great new non-fiction titles available in the library now, and more on the way!

Whatever your interests, we’ve got the book for you.

The library has had a busy start to term, with over 1000 books issued!

Year 8 have got off to a great start, borrowing 185 books in their first month at the school, while Price’s are the top house for borrowing so far.

What will October bring?!

‘Smashing’ work from Year 8, who have completed our community jigsaw! No time to wait, they’ve decided to move on to the next - keep tuned to see which design they’ve decided to tackle this time. 🧩

Every day is a good day to read, but today is #NationalReadABookDay!

Here’s one of my current reads, ‘Norah’s Ark’ by Victoria Williamson - a lovely, thought-provoking story about two children from different backgrounds who bond over nature to form an unlikely friendship.

New displays for a new school year.

Take some life lessons from literature, and kick off the year by reading one of our great sports themed books.

Hope that you all have a lovely summer break: have fun, stay safe, be good!

The library’s summer reading challenge is here!

Keep reading over the holidays by taking part in a reading scavenger hunt - how many items from the list can you find and read?

Small prizes, house points and certificates for all who enter; those who read all items will enter a prize draw.

Congratulations to 8B1, 9W1 and 10B2, who are our Battle of the Books class winners!

Between them, they read and reviewed 106 books over the last three months, and received muffins at break-time today as a reward.

Well done - and keep reading! 📖

Lovely senior book group meeting after school this afternoon. We’re an eclectic little bunch, and discussed everything from books we’ve recently read or are reading to quantum physics!

Next meeting: in the new school year, and we’ll discuss what we’ve read over summer.

Thanks so much to @readingagency.bsky.social and @johnmurrays.bsky.social for generously gifting us a copy of David Attenborough and Colin Butfield’s #Ocean. It’s stunning, and a valuable addition to our collection.

I will never, ever get tired of seeing a pupil’s delight when they get their hands on the book they’ve been desperate to read.

Best feeling, best job.

Great to collaborate earlier in the year with Digital Technology to teach research & referencing skills to some of our Year 14.

Their feedback indicates they found it a useful project - hopefully it’ll make the transition to university study a bit easier too!

What a difference a good weed makes.

Junior fiction looking much fresher and more inviting to use, after a day spent pulling outdated/unborrowed books from the shelves.

With 9 boxes of books removed from this section today, I’m now off home for a lie down!

A timely quote from Dr. Carla Hayden: “Libraries are a cornerstone of democracy—where information is free and equally available to everyone. People tend to take that for granted, and they don’t realize what is at stake when that is put at risk.”

The life of a school librarian… half our time spent convincing you to borrow our books, and the other half desperately pleading with you to bring them back!

April’s #LibraryStats are here! (Only 12 days counted this month due to Easter.)

We’ve received 115 ‘Battle of the Books’ competition reviews, Year 8 & Dobbin’s top their respective leaderboards, & borrowing from the library has saved you £2932.63 between January-April.
