One of my favourites growing up - I still can’t eat Turkish Delight without thinking of the book!

Reading it then, I couldn’t have imagined I’d have ended up working as the librarian in CS Lewis’s old school, and sharing his books with a whole new generation - strange how life works out!

It deals sensitively with some tough themes - homelessness, poverty, bullying, illness, and addiction - but is an ultimately uplifting tale highlighting the importance of empathy and compassion.

Set in 2018, when abortion here was still illegal, this novel explores viewpoints around this topic with nuance & care. Kelly’s writing is warm, realistic, and incredibly moving. A must-read, thought-provoking book for older readers - find it in the senior fiction section.
