Just this week, Edward Yang's MAHJONHG, which is a really terifying movie without approaching genre horror. Social horror? Is that a thing? (Not to be confused with cringe comedy)
What is the best movie not from this year that you’ve seen this year? Bonus points if you say why

One of those days where I question every decision that led me to this point in my life (living 1000 feet from Lake Michigan).

Edward Yang's Confucian Confusion and Mahjong used to be very hard to find in the US, but now Criterion has them on disk and streaming. I watched both on the latter this week, and my socks have been knocked off.

A few months ago, I was consistently getting Nick Fuentes and Charlie Kirk confused with one another and did not know they were rivals. I resent every piece of information on them I have learned since.

The first two episodes of Pluribus are incredible. It's a premise I would have assumed go be a narrative dead end for anything longer than a short story or anthology series episode. But Gilligan dug up stakes and conflict in his world right away, and now I'm completely sold on multiple seasons.

Something worth noting: Rockstar is leaning HEAVILY on the excuse that the unionising employees were "leaking private company information"
They want people to assume this means game info or assets.
But I will bet you CASH MONEY this translates to:
'they were comparing salaries and work contracts"

"Rockstar, Rockstar, you're disgusting, we charge you with union busting," the protesters declared.
'All you had to do was follow the damn law, Rockstar!': Workers are protesting outside Take-Two after GTA 6 dev's alleged 'brazen' union-busting
"They can get used to seeing us on their doorstep."

Elon Musk is not a trillionaire, by the way. There a lot of lofty goals Tesla has to accomplish for him to get there.

I like this one, because it is absolutely NOT a lesson learned. He wants the Right to combat this energy by embracing Nick Fuentes and making Groypers welcome. Great way to tag Republicans for persuadable young men as the party that keeps you from getting laid.

AP just joined NBC and Decision Desk in calling it for Mamdani. That's a wrap.

Very difficult to read thread detailing the human rights abuses at Broadview.
Witness testimony now beginning with Pablo Moreno González, a Mexican national and one of the class rep plaintiffs. He says he's lived in Chicago 35 years.
Gettleman comments that the alleged conditions in Broadview are "in [his] words, disgusting."
If they're true, he says, "Every day that goes by would be irreparably harming the putative class."

can’t tell if my antidepressants aren’t working or if they just weren’t built for this. like, zoloft was introduced in the 90s it barely needed to work then. if you got sad you could just buy a house.

The people who were terrified of a democratically unaccountable "deep state" pulling the strings have elected a President and Speaker of the House who constantly tell us they have no idea what's going on.
O'DONNELL: Why did you pardon Changpeng Zhao?
TRUMP: Are you ready? I don't know who he is
O'DONNELL: His crypto exchange Binance helped facilitate a $2b purchase of World Liberty Financial's stablecoin. And they you pardoned him.
TRUMP: Here's the thing -- I know nothing about it

Most ppl know that Chicago (home of modern urban segregation) is a very segregated place but I don't think most outside Chicago (+many Chicagoans!) understand how the *distances* involved and *depth* of segregation mean most white ppl have ZERO visibility into many Black and Latine neighborhoods

Ideally money, to an existing food bank. I've seen tons of pop-up mutual aid efforts in my small city in the last week. While I applaud the desire to support neighbors in need, imagine navigating dozens of random Facebook posts and email accounts to find food when you need it. Let's make it easy.
If you can afford it, it's a good time to give a donation to your local food bank.
