His supporters will have already known about this horrible thing happening, and learned about it through (more-or-less) appropriately respectful news coverage. Then to be suddenly confronted with this guy's vicious gloating? It's a kind of moral whiplash.

I mean, this post really was genuinely cruel and ugly even for him so maybe it's understandable that even some fans of his would be taken aback. But I think it's also important that this was about a tragic celebrity news story that will get wall-to-wall coverage.
