Remembering Dr. Maryam Mirzakhani on #WorldCancerDay.

Dr. Mirzakhani was first woman to win the Fields Medal, the most prestigious award in #mathematics. She died in 2017 from #breastcancer at the age of 40.

Today in #BlackHistoryMonth, 2/4/1913 #Rosa Parks was born. 1955 refused to move to the back of the bus in a planned #directaction against #JimCrow, sparking Montgomery Bus #Boycott. Later in her life, she became a supporter of the Black Power Movement and an anti-Apartheid activist.

Cardiologist Dr. Helen Taussig founded the field of pediatric cardiology.

Co-developed the Blalock-Thomas-Taussig shunt in 1944. This groundbreaking surgical procedure treated "blue baby syndrome" saving thousands of infants who previously had no treatment option.

Archaeologist Gertrude Caton Thompson was born #OTD in 1888.

She was one of the first in the field to use aerial surveys to identify sites, using them successfully for her famed work in Zimbabwe & Egypt. She led the first all-female archaeological expedition in history in 1929.
