I’m sure I’m not completely new, but my prior posts are from my before time. Thankfully, I have a loving mission & loving allies.
I’ll spare you the actual audio of my grandson (the monster of a Beatles fan I created) but here’s a video of the instrumental he’s singing: youtu.be/vq7yBF6DUNY

This short thread is brilliant!
It’s a similar dynamic to an abusive relationship.

The person abusing their power to achieve deference is trading their ability to be truly loved. Every victory is hollow because they always know that their power is ultimately illegitimate and fragile. They know everyone wishes they didn’t have it.
Pretty simple answer to this question, it’s because Sam Alito is steeped in right-wing grievance culture and views himself as entitled to deference and respect from everyone he encounters

Also pollyannish & as fictional as the notion of character, George Bailey’s epiphany is decent evidence for the view that people can be happy despite every external trapping of failure & bad luck. Indeed, George no longer feels entrapped by social constructs. We re-elected Mr. Potter. We must be sad
I always thought Plato was pretty pollyannaish on this point, but this is decent evidence for the view that a man of bad character will therefore be unhappy even with every external trapping of success and good fortune.
President Donald Trump gifted the world with nearly 200 Truth Social posts (and counting) on Christmas Day, where he amplified conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and called for a member of Congress to be deported.

But for @hannahcooper.bsky.social who reposted & @bcdreyer.social who linked, I would’ve missed this beautiful piece by @coffeeeeee.bsky.social

This year, I lost my daughter & Xmas Eve co-viewer of IAWL (our favorite) & am raising her son. She would’ve smiled seeing herself in this take on Mary.

Random thought on the last Monday of working at my almost 40-year federal job due to Trump & Musk’s forcing me out & destroying IRS

Remember worrying about Mike Pence?

Trump’s 2nd term zealots like Vought don’t just want a seat at the table. They want all the seats

Trump won with just enough non-rich voters who expected at least the following: the rich get richer, the non-rich don’t get poorer & the marginalized remain marginalized.

The non-rich are getting poorer.

It’s time to make the rich poorer, the non-rich richer & the marginalized less marginalized.

I learned from @maddow.msnbc.com that there will be No Kings protests on June 14 the same day Trump throws himself a birthday military parade. Let’s celebrate Burl Ives’ birthday instead. Here’s a song he’s famous for singing with very timely apropos lyrics. youtu.be/JWminVCg3TA?...

A reminder that every small bit of good you do - whether it be putting art into the world, helping a friend or stranger, donating to a good cause, or just listening to someone who needs to vent - offsets all the evil in the world just a little bit. And sometimes that's just what the world needs.

“Life is what you do while you're waiting to die. You know, it’s all a rather sad situation. We're here & we live our 60, 70, or 80 years & we're gone. You win, you win & in the end, it doesn't mean a hell of a lot, but it’s something to do to keep you interested” www.ebroadsheet.com/wp-content/u...

Bessent won’t stop conspiring with Trump. On the imminent US debt default, will the bond raters stop & even if they do, will it matter? In 2013, the GOP Congress caved to Obama due to an imminent default. Obama cared. Trump doesn’t. Even if Thune cares & acts, will it matter? Is a crisis inevitable?
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent update on the debt limit: “We do not have a new X date yet.”

“Because of paper filings, which are substantial, we are still taking in revenues,” he tells reporters on the Hill, adding: “We may have a better calculation before the end of the week or next week.”

Unacceptable! Trump is a dictator. It is not possible to reform him or effect change from the inside. Republicans need to leave their party & pledge to caucus with Dems. The other two Branches must counter Trump with the rule of law, while the people peacefully protest. The alternative is violence.
BLITZER: Do Republican need to reconsider their lockstep support for Trump's agenda?

LANKFORD: There's 2 ways to do check and balances. One is to do press conferences, and the other one is to go privately to people. You'll find a lot of Republicans go to administration officials behind the scenes.

Trump, Musk, and Bessent have brought the IRS to the brink of extinction.

The Acting Commissioner is Bessent’s deputy. The Acting Chief Counsel “a Trump ally and mid-level employee…jumped multiple seniority levels to take the position, worrying executives in the office about his ability to lead.”

Even if Bessent resigns because of trade war skepticism, he absolutely must not be credited with being a principled person. Trump & Musk could never have brought the IRS to the brink of extinction without Bessent’s letting them & helping them. He will forever be near the top of my list of villains.
Scott Bessent admitted China isn’t budging in the face of Trump’s ill-advised tariffs—directly contradicting Trump's Time magazine interview where he said Xi called him.

"Uh, maybe they’ll call me one day,” Bessent said.

I call bullshit on Axios’ report. Big Money is merely propping up Bessent. No one should think Bessent’s besting Musk about who acts as IRS Commissioner matters. Trump, Musk & Bessent all want IRS to die & that pleases Big Money, because no IRS means no tax collector. @lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com

All I can say is, if any fellow Jews still believe Trump isn’t an antisemite & is only supporting Netanyahu to steal Jews’ votes from Democrats, you are not only risking your own safety but also the safety of all other Jews. You need to stop being selfish, if only because you’re threatened, too.
UPDATES: Barnard turned over personal info to feds. Almost every prof got this text. “The federal government reaching out to our personal cellphones to identify who is Jewish is incredibly sinister,” said Barnard prof. Debbie Becher, who is Jewish & got the text. theintercept.com/2025/04/23/t...

The quickest (and increasingly best) way out of our crisis is for a few House Republicans to vote for Jeffries as Speaker and for Trump & Vance to resign.

If Big Media cared about antisemitism, they’d drop Greenblatt & add @peterbeinart.bsky.social My parents opined often about what news & opinions were & weren’t “good for the Jews.” They’d deplore Greenblatt’s opinions. They’d cherish Beinart’s. I miss them but am happy they’re missing today’s news.

This is a great point. It’s also worth noting that the rich, of course, would love it if their 2017 tax cuts were extended, but they’re going to love even more that Trump, Musk & Bessent are killing the IRS. Who needs Congress to cut taxes when you can simply not pay them and go unpunished?
This is gonna really cut in to the bribery that Rich men are willing to pay to Supreme Court justices. Apparently you can just ignore their rules and that’s gonna be much cheaper.
Rep @robertgarcia.bsky.social, who was just in El Salvador, confirms to me there's no indication that the US Embassy there has gotten any directive from the Trump administration to even begin facilitating Kilmar Abrego Garcia's return.

"Trump is defying the Supreme Court," the Congressman says.
