It comes with all the rules to play solo, but not all the Alpha Strike rules.
You need either the Alpha Strike box set, or the Commander's Edition book for the AS rules.
(You might also just be able to use the Quick Start rules, but I'm pretty new also, so I'm not sure about that.)

I put those flaps on in so many different ways before I figured out exactly how they were supposed to go.

Just taking the entire "loading screen" into combat out of the game makes so much difference.
