Even if there wasn’t a growing technological gap (which is also a result of the underlying dynamic I’m about to point out), what’s so different about building on atproto vs apub is that you know exactly ‘who to call’.

If your app has its own lexicon that you're going to be using to write data to a user's PDS, you should state this *explicitly* so that they know new data is being added to their PDS! Yes, you don't technically have to, but I genuinely think this is an important issue of user consent.

let's put some hard numbers to this. @pfrazee.com loves to post, you just can't stop him. one year ago you needed to store 8mb to verify his next write. today you need to store over 20mb, this number isn't getting any smaller.
with this update we're talking closer to a constant 100 bytes. 2/10
