Maybe we need constantly rotating citizens’ assemblies to make decisions on infrastructure projects, so we can avoid politicians refusing to change outdated decisions from decades ago just to save face or to protect party interests.

“Fully automated trains are an investment in the public transport of the future…” meanwhile, in Cambridge the GCP still wants to proceed with the busway plans conceived 15 years ago even as the growth stares back at us…

This isn't a London vs. others story. What it shows is how important public transport is to building new homes at scale. If London can't build sustainably without investment, there is little reason to think other English cities will be able to. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Delivery of EWR could be accelerated by simplifying the line direct into Cambridge South & instead serving Cambourne by light rail as per Cambridge Connect. Faster, cheaper, more flexible & better connections. Lower environmental impact.

£2.5 billion capital funding is a drop in the ocean for a scheme that would pay for itself in no time through increased economic activity driven by improved labour mobility.

This is a bad decision made for the wrong reasons by weak people who don’t deserve the power they wield.

A bus network is not attractive rapid transit & will struggle to drive modal shift and investment. Look no further than Cambridge to see that despite busways, overall mode share of buses remains stuck on ~8% & congestion keeps increasing… is that the answer for Leeds? We don’t think so.
Rapid transit you say? The answer from Treasury is always: ‘maybe it could be a bus?’
not so fast! Never underestimate the depth of cynicism you are required to bring to the table
