The San Diego Padres did a navy camo variation of their camo uniforms and it’s easily the best version but I don’t remember last time they put it in their rotation (especially since they phased out the blue on the regular uniforms) and I don’t even think the Navy has that camo anymore.

If you saw the Instagram clip TCM posted with me talking to Dave Karger, you probably noticed I had on a yellow T-shirt. This was my James Dean T-shirt I bought off eBay. I wore it for good luck.

It's a crucial moment that highlighted how home video tech allowed for archiving and sharing media among the trans community and also to the next generation. Unsurprisingly with the success of Veneno, the same creative team did a Dressed in Blue series. It's good but the documentary is better.

Now for Dressed in Blue, I first found out about the film's existence happened because it is discussed in Spanish-language TV series, Veneno, about the tabloid figure Cristina Ortiz Rodriguez aka La Veneno. She tells a younger trans woman about the doc and gives her a taped VHS copy of it.

Irving Rapper was in his 70s by the time he made The Christine Jorgensen Story. It has a real exoskeleton of melodrama with its only real point of interest being in portrayal Christine as a young child struggling with their identity. The rest of it gets into B-movie sci-fi.

Jorgensen was out in front with her memoir being made into a film, including twisting herself into a pretzel to defend the choice of casting unknown John Hansen to play her. But because Myra Breckinridge was also coming out, she commented it and couldn't hide her disdain for Vidal referencing her.

Christine Jorgensen wisely chose to not do an immediate memoir after her worldwide notoriety gained. By the time her memoir was published in 1967, the Erickson Educational Foundation and gender clinics were up and running in the U.S. Then in 1968, Gore Vidal's Myra Breckinridge was published.

Irving Rapper was very prolific but I think of Now, Voyager is his obvious standout film. And I also bring up Now, Voyager because if there was ever an Old Hollywood director to do a feminine glow-up that makes up so much of trans fictional narratives, it is the guy who did Now, Voyager.

For tomorrow night's TCM appearance, I just want to highlight that when researching the true story of Dog Day Afternoon, the 'gay wedding' referenced within the news report of the film did happen and Lee G. Brewster's DRAG Magazine covered it only to follow up on it later. Photos from DTA.
