We do. Reality TV not on streaming still functions on a week to week basis and are still highly rated and popular. As does American football. They’re not scripted but the way people engage with them run closer to how people talk about characters in a scripted series.

Moneyball worked best for less wealthy teams seeking to remain competitive in a system of richer teams but when richer teams are being run by numbers people suddenly going for the same players as the Moneyball teams the purpose is defeated.

What best worked as a niche for certain shows that could only function a finite amount of episodes in a landscape of weekly ritualistic programming became the norm the novelty wore off and people do miss when scripted TV did actually have a week to week engagement pattern than binging.
